Southern Illinois University has a specialized Career Support Cell that helps students, both graduates and undergraduates, meet and interact with staff members through walk-ins. These staff members aid them in creating strong CVs, enhancing interview skills, figuring out pay packages, and much more. Students can easily approach these advisors and ask questions related to their choice of profession, job searching method, and how to build network with potential employers.
Job fairs are also organized for students seeking internships and interns and career opportunities. These are usually hosted on-campus in September and February.
Other facilities provided by the placement support cell are:
Employer Information Sessions: Live webinars are organized by various employers throughout the year where students are taught about future job opportunities and internships, market trends, workplace practices, etc.
Hiring a SALUKI: It is a career platform where more than 500K employers are registered. Students can obtain personal recommendations from them on the basis of their talent, likes, dislikes, interests, skills, location, preferences and majors.
Student employment program: Students can find part-time job experience, financial support, and educational benefits over here. In this program, student employees will be enrolled for a minimum number of credit hours at SIU. This also helps students earn a little bit for their expenditures.
Externships: These are 1-week, unpaid career preparation experiences for students in the 3rd semester or for transfer students. Here, university alumni and friends host students at their offices and involve them in job shadowing.
