The College of the Rockies is a public community college situated in British Columbia, Canada. It provides post-secondary education and programs to students all over the world.

The eligibility criteria for international students are as follows:

  • Students are required to submit official high school transcripts
  • Courses, grades and credentials of high school are also required

What documents are needed for the university application?


The documents required for international students are listed as follows:

  • Official high school transcripts
  • High school mark sheets and scores
  • Proof of English proficiency, such as IELTS, TOEFL, etc.
  • Copy of passport
  • Letter of recommendations, if required

All documents submitted to the university must be in the English language. If not, students are advised to get them translated into English.


Application & Tuition Fees


Is there any application fees?


The university charges an application fee of CAD 30 for international students. Some courses might require a different application fee. The application fee is non-refundable. Students can pay the application fee via mail or fax, as per their requirements.


What is the fee structure of different courses available at the university?


The tuition fee for post-secondary programs is different for every course. The estimated tuition fee* for international students is as follows:

Scholarships & Financial Aid


Is there any scholarship or financial aid available for international students?


The university offers several scholarships and bursaries to international students. The scholarships are either based on merit scores or the financial need of the students. The scholarships offered to the international students by the university are listed as follows:

  1. Irving K. Barber British Columbia International Scholarships: This scholarship is offered to undergraduate and postgraduate international students based on the merit and academic excellence of the students. Students are required to determine their skills and passion towards their personal and educational goals.
  2. Premier’s Scholarship: A scholarship of CAD 6,000 to CAD 10,000 is offered to undergraduate and postgraduate students based on their academic excellence in post-secondary studies. The selection is also based on institutional involvement and the suitability of the program. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is Late-March.
  3. International Learning Travel Awards: A scholarship of up to CAD 2,500 is offered to undergraduate and postgraduate students based on academic excellence. Students must have completed one semester at the college with a minimum of 60% of the scores. The scholarship amount is paid towards the tuition fee of the students.
  4. International Students’ Scholarship: A scholarship of up to CAD 2,000 is offered to undergraduate and postgraduate international students based on academic excellence, assessment of performance and community involvement.

Admission Process


When do the admissions start?


The university has three intake sessions: Fall, Spring, and Winter. The deadlines for international students are listed as follows:

What are the steps to the application process?


The international students can apply to the various programs using the Education Planner portal. Students are required to create an account and fill in all the details to apply for their program. The step-by-step process is:

Step 2: If you are applying for the first time, create an account using your email address.

Step 3: Fill in your personal details, such as name, gender, date of birth, country, postal address, email address, etc.

Step 4: Fill in your academic history, citizenship details, demographic information, home address, contact information, education background, etc.

Step 5: After filling in all the required information by the university, review the application and submit it.

Next, wait for the results.

 


When will I hear from the university after I submit my application?


Students will hear back from the university within a few weeks. During busy periods, the process can take longer. Students will receive an application decision via email. Students can also check the application status by logging in to the admission portal of the university.

What are the chances to get into this university?


The university is not competitive or selective as it provides post-secondary programs. The admission team of the university evaluates the applications individually. Students are required to meet the minimum eligibility criteria and English requirements set by the university to get admission. Students will receive an email related to the offer letter.


How many Indian/international students are studying at the university?


As per the 2018 enrolment report, the university has a total of 2,390 students at seven campuses. The international students stand at 300 from over 45 countries.

Part Time Work While Studying


Can I work while studying here?


International students are allowed to work on- and off-campus while studying at the university. Students can work for 20 hours per week during a study semester. During vacations, students can work for a maximum of 40 hours a week.

 

The employment eligibility of the international students are as follows:

  • Students are required to have a valid Canadian study permit
  • Students must be enrolled in a full-time program at the university
  • Social Insurance Number (SIN) is required
  • Students are also required to have a Canadian Immigration Medical Exam while working with elders or children.

 

Co-op Work Permit:

Some of the Rockies' programs require work practicum. The eligibility criteria are as follows:

  • Your program must consist of practicum
  • A valid study permit is required
  • The duration of practicum should be less than 50% of the duration of the program

 

Off-Campus Employment:

Students are allowed to work off-campus for 20 hours a week while a study is in session and up to 40 hours during holidays.

 

Students can also work off-campus part-time during the study semester and full-time during vacations and university holidays. The job vacancies can be found using the job portals like Indeed, LinkedIn, etc.

Yes, the college offers both on and off-campus housing facilities to international students. The houses include Purcell House and other residence houses in Cranbrook. The amenities of the houses include internet, mail service, laundry facility, and common rooms for students.

Accommodation Booking

Students are required to book a room before starting the study program. A non-refundable fee of CAD 35 is charged to book a room in advance and the fee must be paid before students arrive on campus.
