Application & Tuition Fees

Is there any application fees?

The application fee for undergraduate and postgraduate admission is EUR 75. The university also offers financial waivers to students facing financial hardships.

What is the fee structure of courses offered by the university?

TU Dresden, like many other public German universities, does not charge tuition fees. It means that international students can study for their preferred degrees without having to pay the tuition fee.

However, some master’s degrees, such as International Studies and Intellectual Property Law, charge a semester fee. Students also need to pay an administration cost (including a ticket for public transport) each semester in lieu of (or in addition to) tuition fees. A fare to use Dresden’s public transit is included in the price.

Scholarships

Supported by STIBET-Program of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Dresden International Office provides scholarships to highly eligible international TU students and bursaries for strongly dedicated students. This bursary cannot help research applicants (applicants for a student's placement at the TU Dresden) who are not yet registered at the university at the time of bursary submission.

Financial Aid

Students from outside the country where the university is situated are given foreign scholarships, bursaries, or grants. They are often referred to as financial support and are mostly managed by the Financial Aid Office of the university. Bursaries are also provided for study or thesis.

Internships

TU Dresden offers various bonds and internships to foreign students. Admission Process

When do the admissions start?

The deadline for applicants for entry-limited studies in a higher semester or master's programs with restricted admission remains towards the middle of July. Tentative deadlines for summer and winter semesters are as follows:

Note: Applicants for German Abitur and EU applicants must note the extension of the registration deadline for the first term, currently July-end while applying in the 2021-2022 winter semester for a limited enrolment undergraduate (NC) course. Applicants who have received their high school leaving certificate before the deadline [German – Altabiturienten] must register for the Medicine, Dentistry, and Human Medicine research programs towards the end of May.

When will I hear from the university after I submit my application?

Enrolment decision for bachelor and master programs are communicated within 4-6 weeks. Immediately after receiving the offer letter, foreign students must start their German student visa application, as the procedure can take up to three months.

What are the chances of getting into this university?

The Dresden University of Technology is considered in the top 3% of universities in the world. It is one of the toughest universities to get into. The admission process here is complex as compared to other universities in Germany. The university is highly selective of its candidates. For specific courses, students may be asked to demonstrate their abilities and academic qualities.

The admissions are scrutinized based on merit, essays, academic performance, English proficiency scores, entry exams (if any), motivation letter, internship or work experience, and portfolio of a student.

Part Time Work While Studying

Can I work while studying here?

Employment Contracts

The employment contracts are divided into two types:

1. A traditional part-time work as a regular employee with a traditional social commitment, which could be very low, if you have a mini-job
2. A “Werkstudenten” Contract, which is usually restricted to 20 hours per week (with the exception), allows you to be as flexible as you need

Instead of (or in addition to) tuition payments, students have to make a half-year contribution of EUR 276 per semester (USD 312). This requires a pass to Dresden public transport.

Student assistantships and research assistantships are available. Vacancies in some government departments are also seen. Please be aware that after the qualification process ends, all open positions will be removed.

The campus offers students all amenities, from high technology laboratories and Wi-Fi services on the campus to the SLUB, where students can explore anything.
