Q:   Can I work while studying in Saarland University?

A: 

Yes, Saarland University allows all its international students to work while studying in the institution. Overseas students are allowed to work 120 full or 240 half days per calendar year without permission. If a students wants to work more, then they must get permission from the immigration office. This also applies to internships, except for those that are a mandatory part of studies. On the other hand, they are allowed to work as a part-time student without any restrictions. Student part-time jobs are at the university or in the vicinity of the university, e.g. jobs as a research assistant, at the Studierendenwerk or at the AStA.

A: 

Saarland University requires all international applicants to prove the results of a standardized aptitude test and English language skills by means of a recognised language certificate (IELTS/TOEFL/Cambridge) in order to secure an admission in the university. Also, as an alternative to the aptitude test, successful participation in an international science/computer science/mathematics Olympiad can also be provided as an additional qualification in addition to English language skills. However, if a candidate is unable to provide an additional qualification in the form of an aptitude test (SAT/ACT) or participation in an Olympiad, or if they are unable to provide English language proficiency through a recognised language certificate, then they can apply to participate in an online, oral university entrance test (interview). Students must note that the number of seats for the online interview may be limited. Hence, if they wish to participate in the interview, they must submit their application the latest by June 15.
