Mt. Helen campus is located on 110 hectares of bushland and only 10km away from the center of Ballarat. The Federation University started in 1870 at SMB Campus, which was primarily known as the School of Mines Ballarat. SMB Campus also includes the Federation College, the Manufacturing Technology Training Centre, and the Building and Construction Training Center. However, the SMB Campus does not offer on-campus residence accommodation but a range of off-campus residence facilities.
