Lethbridge College is a publicly funded community college in Canada. It was founded in 1957. The college is a member of the Alberta Rural Development Network. The mission of the college is to inspire and facilitate learning and innovation to meet the economic and social needs of society. It prepares students for real life by offering excellent academic experiences. The vision of the college is to lead and transform education in the state.

The college is famous for its sports team named Kodiaks. The college competes in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference. It includes various sports like soccer, volleyball, golf, basketball, cross country, running, etc. The sports team has won many National Championships and even the ACAC Championship. The huge campus of the college includes a sports centre, libraries, several program departments, Students’ Association (LCSA), and digital communications and media programs.

Eligibility & Documents Required


What are the eligibility and requirements for students?


The eligibility requirements for international students are as follows:

  • Students must have a Senior School Certificate, Higher Secondary School Certificate or Intermediate Certificate from a recognized schooling institution.
  • Students must be 18 years of age or above at the time of admission.
  • Students are required to have completed Grade 12 English with a minimum of English 30-2 or equivalent.

Which documents are needed for the college application?


The documents are required to be translated into English if they are not in the English language.  The supporting documents required for international students are as follows:

Application & Tuition Fees


Are there any application fees?


The college charges an application fee of CAD 100 for all international students. It is the same across programs. The application fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. Students can request a fee waiver in case they need financial assistance. Students can submit the application fee along with the program application using the admission portal.


Scholarships & Financial Aid


Is there any scholarship or financial aid available to international students?


The college offers several scholarships to international students. The scholarships are offered based on merit, academic excellence, and the financial need of students. The scholarships offered by the college are as follows:

  1. LCSA International Student Continuing Award: A scholarship of CAD 1,000 is offered to students based on their merit and academic scores. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is early May.
  2. LCSA International Student Entrance Award: A scholarship of CAD 500 is offered to the new students enrolled in a full-time post-secondary program at the college. The students are selected based on academic achievement and essays around why they chose to attend the college and why they deserve the scholarship.
  3. Lethbridge College Continuing International Award: A scholarship of CAD 1,500 is awarded to students who can demonstrate a compelling combination of financial need and academic achievement.
  4. Pay it Forward International Scholarship: A scholarship of CAD 2,000 is offered to full-time international students based on their outstanding academic achievement.
  5. Meszaros International Continuing Award: A scholarship of CAD 2,500 is offered to the students who can demonstrate their financial needs. Students are required to enroll in a full-time program at the college. Preference will be given to the students who can demonstrate the academic achievement and challenges faced during immigrating to the country.

When does the admission process start?


Lethbridge College has three intake sessions: Fall, Winter, and Spring. The application dates and deadlines are as follows:

When will I hear from the college once I have submitted my application?


International students will receive a decision from the college within a few weeks via email after submitting their application. Students may check the application status by logging in to the admission portal.

Please note that decisions are announced online and all the student-specific communication from the university is done via email. Hence, students must register with an active email address to keep a track on all university notifications, especially in their spam folder. Aspirants may also check their application status on the official admission portal.

It is also recommended to stay updated with any announcements related to modifications or requirements in the admission process by remaining active on the university website.

The acceptance rate of the college is 84%. It means that out of every 100 students, 84 students are selected. The college is not competitive. However, the applications are assessed individually by the college based on merit, academic excellence, interviews, references and extra-curricular activities.

Students are required to meet the eligibility criteria and minimum English requirements to gain admission to the college. After the college processes the applications, offer letters are sent to the students.

The college has 5,581 students in total, including 5,017 enrolled in degree programs, diplomas, and certificates, 354 apprenticeship students, and 212 supplemental credit students. Out of the total student body, 684 are international students, including 350 from India. 


Part Time Work While Studying


Can I work while studying here?


International students are allowed to work on- and off-campus if they have a valid study permit and are enrolled in a full-time study program at the college. Students are required to have a Social Insurance Number (SIN) to work in Canada.

Working Hours

On-campus employment does not have any limit for permitted hours of work. The restrictions on work hours may be imposed by Lethbridge College employers. Students can work on-campus with the student organization, private contractors in the college, and at departments.

Students can work off-campus for 20 hours a week during a study session and 40 hours or full-time during vacations and holidays. Students can find various off-campus opportunities on job portals like LinkedIn or Indeed, website listings, and through private individuals.

Post-Graduate Work Permit

The students who graduate from the college are allowed to gain Canadian work experience in the country through the PGWP. The work permit will be issued within 12 to 23 months based on the duration of the study program. The education staff also holds frequent workshops that help interested students in applying for the PGWP. Students are required to have a valid study permit and proof of graduation to apply.

Note: International students are advised to check the conditions of working in a foreign country on their study visa. They are also advised to confirm any specific instructions on the same from their respective departments and faculties. Under no circumstances should they be found compromising with the law and order of the country.

The college offers both on- and off-campus housing facilities to international students. The residence houses include Kodiak House, 30th Avenue Residence, and Cullen Residence. The residence facilities include furnished suites with tables, desks, beds, sofas and chairs. Students can bring their own TV, phones, computers, and radios.
