Master of Science in Health Informatics - Batch of 2025
5
A multi dimensional university with larger healthcare focus
Tips: Regarding off-campus stay, one would need to thoroughly check different options available based on the price, distance from the university etc. And need to be proactive in the application. The scholarship will be automatically applied and will be mentioned in the admit letter. Completion of prerequisite courses, if any mentioned in the admit letter will help thorough understanding of lectures. After the admit letter is received, one needs to be proactive in reading the emails from the university and taking action.
Likes (Quality of faculty): There are many student organizations and clubs focusing well-being of international students which organize various events on campus throughout the year. There are many kinds of events like weeks of welcome during the start of the semester, cultural events during festive occasions and mental wellbeing events during exam periods and retreats before holidays.
Dislikes (Part time work): The faculty are great with updated knowledge and expertise in the field. They are welcoming and kind for any help including doubts and discussions. Separate classes for lectures and labs on different days are unique and help students to revise concepts thoroughly and to gain hands-on experience.

Opportunities are available if you meet the requirements.
Tips: I was able to secure a scholarship after writing an essay on what I wanted to do in the next few years after not even searching for scholarships for a day. That said, scholarships are to be found easily and would depend on your major.
Likes (Post study jobs): Opportunities are many and depend on your credentials and certification, if you meet the requirements you can get a job. I have yet to identify salary packages accurately but roughly speaking $50k to $100k for jobs related to IT. There are IT customer service jobs starting at $14 / hr as a part time student on campus and can go up to $40000 with benefits as full-time.
Dislikes (Value for money): As an international student one has to pay out-of-state fees which is considerably higher than in-state fees paid by locals. However, there are many scholarships to secure if you're getting above 3.0 / 4.0 GPA and that's why I rated it a 3 out of 5.

The University is excellent in terms of faculty, infrastructure(campus), diversity.
Tips: People are very nice here and small talk is frequent so learn to talk to people and be nice. I did get scholarships, it was a mix of grants and awards which I got after applying through the university website. Pretty satisfied with everything so far.
Likes (Internships): Professors and the university have provided us with tools that would help build our careers. There are many internships available relevant to my field of study as well as my different interests. We use student job portals to find jobs/internships through which I found a job within a week.
Dislikes (Student Life): A usual day of college involves taking classes, going around college and playing games during break. In the first week, a lot of tabling events have been set up throughout the campus which showcase all the different clubs, frats and sororities. I have enrolled in the real estate and growing club.

IUPUI is a very good college.
Tips: This is not a party college, but I absolutely love the perks after a student graduates from here. IUPUI is a very good college, a person who is looking for a great school with amazing faculty and job opportunities should definitely think of coming here.
Likes (Part time work): I can say there is good part time work because I saw a lot of available jobs for students. I did not find a lot of difficulty in finding a job after coming here. It is definitely easy but one should choose a job that suits them and their academics. IUPUI also provides fair pay for on campus jobs.
Dislikes (Value for money): I think the tuition cost of IUPUI is a little on the higher side. Apart from that the city of Indianapolis is not that expensive to be honest. One could spend $500 dollars monthly here on groceries and other expenses. Also I feel the university should give out higher scholarships.

Good university, before coming to the university please research about IUPUI.
Tips: Select Indianan university course as they are providing on campus jobs with scholarship worth $8000. You need to research the college before coming to IUPUI. Purdue university has low opportunity compared to IU so please kindly check before applying.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Quality of education is good and public transportation is excellent .Campus is excellent in infrastructure with good faculty. There's diversity across the campus, people from different countries. Try to maintain a friendly nature in university. Overall, you could get a good rank university in medium budget.
Dislikes (Value for money): You have to adjust and not everywhere is perfect. You'll need to compare all the opportunities under IUPUI. I will suggest pursuing master's at IU as it would be easy to find part-time job on campus and scholarship is provided.

Academically tough college
Tips: I feel students should know that there is less party culture in Indianapolis. And IUPUI is a more strict and academically oriented college. So achieving good grades is difficult. I would prefer other colleges over this because it's easier to get good grades in other colleges while here we are struggling to even pass the course
Likes (Student Life): I feel we have better student life here as there is less population and we are having our best time here. There are also some marvelous restaurants around here and the whole place is safe. But the temperature is really harsh and people sometimes cannot bear this over here.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I do not feel there is any recruitment right now because of underdevelopment and less number of updated companies. I also feel that finding a job along with academics is tough. Life is a little hard than what we think back in our home country.

A great university environment and atmosphere for studies.
Tips: The University is good and it has now separated into two universities but they still share many common resources. For business degrees Indiana University is good, else for engineering degrees, Purdue University is good. You will find lots of Indians here.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty is supportive. Professors are from various nationalities like Indian and mostly Asian etc. They even curve classes a lot for our understanding. The faculty is friendly to answer any question you might have. They are also supportive of giving LORs.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Indian restaurants are nearby with good taste. On campus, they sometimes have Indiana food too but it does not taste that good. Pricing is also decent. I stayed on campus and had a meal plan and the food there was okay.

The faculty is understanding, friendly will guide you to achieve your career goals.
Tips: My favourite part of college has been the professors and how involved and encouraging they are. They have made this college a supportive and inclusive environment. Aside from this, the campus amenities such as housing, food and transport are much better than you'd expect. The public transportation is very flexible, accessible and affordable to travel and explore the city.

Good energy and a promising campus.
Tips: Students should know that Duke has a very holistic and all-rounder approach to education. You will have to be focused on your academic commitments as the environment is pretty competitive and classes are rigorous. But you will also get to be a part of many cultural activities and exchange programs to broaden your horizons.

Good experience overall, more beneficial for students with a non-business background
Tips: Great environment for international folks. Everyone here embrace diversity and inclusion. It was not an easy transition to move from a happening city to a calmer place like Durham but the events at Duke made up for the lack of places to explore around. The course is more useful if you come from a non-business background. Placements have not been great due to the job market.
Likes (Part time work): Lots of opportunities to do on-campus work. The community is welcoming to hire international students and no problems have been faced regarding it so far. Manageable workload depending on your role. TA roles are also available for students on the colleges' own job portals.
Dislikes (Safety): The city in which the college is situated has a high crime rate but students and gate communities are well protected with security & constant patrolling. The campus is extremely safe at any time. No good or bad experiences so far on or off campus, but always stay alert.

The Duke name helps in getting opportunities.
Tips: Not a major cultural shift, since this course attracts a lot of Indians. You should be actively participating in activities around you or you will miss out. I did not receive any scholarships. The university was very satisfactory, it offers guidance, security, and a platform to make the best of your career. As for the programme, it's as good as you make of it. It is designed to give you an introduction to most things, not a deep drive, it opens new horizons of thinking and changes your perspectives on decision-making and your approach, but there is a lot of self-effort required.
Likes (Student Life): Attending lectures, participating in the various activities going in the campus, from information sessions to painting sessions. I attended about 3 events each week. All kinds of clubs are present, from data, and sustainable energy, to mediation and music clubs.
Dislikes (Internships): The Career Center does provide guidance but it is limited and the students are expected to do most of the work. The availability of internships changes every year, during my first year, we had to scour a lot, during my second year I saw the incoming batch getting lots of calls by October itself. Overall, the location is good for the search, the Duke name helps, but it's mostly dependent on the market situation during that time.

Duke- A fun and memorable experience
Tips: Students coming here should research more about the course and be open to change. I would advise on networking with peers and alumni for advice and support. Explore the campus for fun activities and make use of the resources available. Overall, I would ask students to focus on their job search and proactively look for opportunities.

Great opportunity, but be clear and aware.
Tips: Make sure you have a clear goal in mind what you want to achieve after graduation. Keep aside a certain amount for living expenses, as finding an on-campus job is tricky. Most master's programs do not have diversity, so do not be shocked if you do not see it here.
Likes (Indian Food): One can get a good Indian meal in the $10-$20 range. There are good restaurants, and Indian groceries are pretty accessible. Check out Lime & Lemon, Indian Monsoon, and Anjappar in Carry as a few good options. Eating out in the US regularly can burn a hole in your pockets, so make sure you know or learn how to cook.
Dislikes (Public transportation): The US is heavy on the individualistic culture; hence, there is a lack of decent public transportation. The bus arrives in an hour, so you must plan your visits accordingly. Make sure you stay within the vicinity of the campus to make things easy for you. Public transportation is free for the residents of Durham.

The alumni network is resourceful.
Tips: Great quality of academics and a very competitive environment. Friendly professors and a wide variety of streams to choose from. Flexibility in the course structure and great help from peers. Extensive alumni network. Can be better at helping in the job search.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Extraordinary faculty members with lots of real-world and teaching experience. Great curriculum design with practical training. Flexible and adaptive according to students' requirements. Feedback-based curriculum updates and lots of industry networking will be helpful for job search.
Dislikes (Safety): Multiple incidents near my residential area which is located 10 minutes away from the campus. Very unsafe at night especially with no public transport available after 9. No nearby restaurants and sparsely populated which increases the number of people getting out during the night for dinner and getting robbed.

Best faculty, course and campus blend you will ever see.
Tips: Coming to the US for the first time will be a big culture shift. It does take time to adjust to the people living here but one will soon adjust. The classes and assignments do take up a lot of time. The best part of Duke is the flexibility of choosing courses and catering to one's own needs. Scholarships are rarely available. The course is value for money because of the faculty members and the network you develop here.
Likes (Student Life): Best part about the campus is the architecture. Built in a gothic style it shows a blend of modern and old architecture. Students have classes mostly in West Campus which is new and has a lot of eateries and work stations. Campus is always with multiple events going around all day throughout the campus.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Being closer to Raleigh and Carry helps Durham's case here. Durham is a small town with limited resources for long term settlement but a great place to stay short-term. Durham is located in the Triangle area which is growing really fast offices of big tech firms popping up. Meta, Google etc. have their office space being built. You will find companies like Toshiba and Lenovo have their main branches in RTC area.
