BS in Statistics & Data Science - Batch of 2025

It is a new environment, be more participative and open to new things.
Tips: Before joining the UofA, I would recommend students to understand basic things about university like programs offered, campus culture, location, rankings etc. The university does offer scholarship based on our academic scores in high school; I did receive a scholarship. It's definitely a different experience since it is a new environment in which we are learning, but it has been great so far. I did experience some cultural differences initially, but now I have settled up well. It does take some time but always be more participative and open to new things.
Likes (Indian Food): There are enough Indian restaurants around campus and in Tucson. I know two restaurants, one of them is on campus and the other is very close to the campus. The prices are quite decent, ranging from 4$-20$ approximately. There are also other cuisines available like Vietnamese cuisine, Italian cuisine etc. I personally prefer cooking myself because being an international student, cooking saves a lot of money which could be used to pay the rent or tuition fee. I make meal plans or store food to save time during the workdays.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Sponsorship is a requirement for full-time jobs but not for internships. I think due to the ongoing recession and layoff period for this year, the post study jobs opportunities are very limited and has been difficult to find, especially for international students. Many companies are not offering sponsorship, but it is expected to ease up soon depending on the job market situation. However, the university offers certain research positions too which could be considered as an alternative option.

Come to Houston, be a Texan. Excellent alumni network.
Tips: I have become a better well-rounded person and could hone my leadership skills. I do not have any scholarships here but I had received offers with scholarships in other universities. I am working as an RA for the dean. I am very happy with the university, course and country.
Likes (Post study jobs): The college has great connections and an excellent alumni network. People usually go into investment banking and consulting jobs. Also, a lot of people go to work in teach industry. Most of the students stay back in Houston, though some of them migrate to the East Cost West cost.
Dislikes (Public transportation): Houston is a very spread out city and it is not developed as a city which favors public transportation. The city expects people to have cars since it is the world's oil and gas capital. And of course, this is Texas, the biggest state in the US. There is a train (metro) which runs close to the college which a lot of students use for commuting.

A growing and refreshing experience.
Tips: It took me a lot of time to adapt to the learning curve here. The way we solve and think is different from India. I am satisfied and happy with the university and the course, I feel I got the money spent was worth it because of the network I built and learning from my peers and overall experience.
Likes (Part time work): I mostly spend studying at the library and working part-time. As the campus is very diverse you get to participate in various events related to their countries, like Latin festivals. I was a part of the Growing club and graduation games club which helped me pass the time and stay fit. I got to meet different kinds of people through this.
Dislikes (Quality of faculty): The faculty are very approachable and would be willing to help and provide additional resources if interested. I have experienced various kinds of teaching methodologies, some involved in class activity, group problem solving and many more. I feel the faculty come from different parts of the world so it is pretty diverse like the student ratio.
