Tips: Before joining the University of Birmingham, it is essential to manage their time well, especially with dividing the academic workload, networking with professors and peers, and getting involved in campus activities. Also, be prepared for a different teaching style and expectations compared to home. The city is generally safe and the campus facilities are good. There are occasional cons in certain parts of the city particularly at night. The overall crime rate is low, but it's always important to stay alert and follow safety tips. Overall, I am quite satisfied with my experiences.
Dislikes (Indian Food): While it is sometimes difficult to find authentic dishes from my country, I have been able to find local stores that serve familiar flavours. The availability of ingredients in international stores or markets also helps, but certain spices or delicacies are often harder to find.

Tips: I did transition after coming here. There was a huge cultural shift I faced during the first month, but I eventually got used to it. I did avail a scholarship. They have set so high standards for even part-time jobs on campus. Managing academics and part-time at the same time is a bit hectic. The minimum payout is 10.42 for those who are above the age of 21. Overall, I'm satisfied with my university in every aspect.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Well-experienced faculty members from all over the world. They were easily accessible and ready to help at any time. Classes were conducted in seminar halls with a video recording option, so we can access them at any time after that throughout our lifetime.

Likes (Public transportation): Public transportation is well connected at reliable and convenient. The campus is easily accessible through buses trains and Metro making computing within the city seamless. Public transport is affordable with student discount discounts and frequent services ensuring smooth travel for students and residents alike.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The process can be lengthy and requires meeting strict criteria like continuous employment and Visa eligibility. If given a chance I would consider permanent settlement due to the country's thriving cyber security industry and cultural diversity which alliance well with my professional and personal interests. However, visa policies and job market competition remain key factors to evaluate.

Tips: The faculty is the major highlight of the university. Everyone was an expert in their own fields. Their ability to blend theoretical concepts with practical applications made learning engaging. The program offered numerous hands-on projects that allowed us to apply what we learned in real-world scenarios. The feature of assigning a personal tutor to every student helped everyone get the academic guidance and support they needed. The best experience for a student.
Tips: There definitely was a cultural shift for me. But nothing most people can't handle. It took me a while to learn certain things that India didn't teach us. I got a commonwealth scholarship of 2000 pounds. About the university, the infrastructure and technology blew my mind. It is the perfect place to study.
Likes (Safety): Birmingham is a very safe city. Even through the night it is mostly alive. One thing to keep in mind is to avoid the canals. In the year and a half that I lived there, I did not have any bad experience. As long as we don't go out of line, I'd say we will have no trouble.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): They have no placement drives like the ones we have in India. We have to look for jobs ourselves. Given that the UK is in a recession, it is very difficult to find jobs in the country. They prefer hiring a fresher who is from the UK or EU rather than someone for whom they would have to sponsor a visa.

Tips: There are many cultural shifts once you arrive here in the UK. Coming here is one thing and starting living and sustaining here is another thing, From managing studies, and exam pressure to financial hurdles, and homesickness an individual has their journey uniquely. In the UK, people tend to be more individuals and have fewer family links and social organisations. India's culture is more closer and conservative than Britain's. No, I did not avail of any scholarships, though advised to apply for them as quickly as possible. I am quite satisfied with the university, programme and country. We just need to stay focused and keep working hard until we find some good full-time opportunity.
Likes (Student Life): A typical day starts early in the morning, getting ready for either a lecture to attend or a sports session such as swimming, badminton, basketball, gym or tennis etc. Then after coming back, prepare food for lunch and evening, then study and go to sleep after some fun time with friends. The most enjoyable thing that I used to do in my college life was going to play sports and get myself involved in activities such as fitness and sports. There are diverse events organised by various societies under the Guild of Students, ranging from cultural fests to simple events on going on campus or student accommodation. I used to participate as maximum as possible if I had spare time to socialize and have fun in those events. Student clubs are there for all types of interests, academic programs, backgrounds, nationalities, religious beliefs, etc. Such as business societies, photography, gaming, Hindu, Islamic, and Sikh societies, International Students Club, volunteering and UNICEF communities, dance clubs, etc.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): The only opportunities for students available on campus are Career Fair, where recruiters and companies visit campus and interact with the students directly. Very few sponsor visas, for the rest, students have to take up graduate visa route on their own. Most of the roles are for freshers such as graduate scheme roles, graduate management or trainee, financial auditor, etc. The starting average annual salary is 30,000 pounds.

The faculty is very friendly and the classes are very interactive and engaging.
Tips: I have grown as a person, become more independent, and more mature since entering university. There were some cultural shocks and differences, but mostly how kind and accepting most people were. That feels like the norm now. I did not receive any scholarships, but I am very satisfied with my university experience.
Likes (Safety): I have a very active social life at the University of Birmingham. I spend my time studying, attending class, and working out at the gym. If I have any energy left, I like to go out with friends. There are many social events on campus that I can attend. The student body is very diverse, and everyone is kind and accepting of everyone else. The staff is very helpful and always there to support and talk to new students.
Dislikes (Student Life): The staff at the University of Birmingham are very kind and helpful. The university is incredibly inclusive and diverse, and the staff is very attentive to everyone's problems. The faculty does its best to offer fruitful solutions and help students and staff in the best way they can. The staff is very diverse and well spread out.

Tips: Coming to study at the University of Birmingham is a good place to get accustomed to changes in your lifestyle. The university is very welcoming, and there are quite a few scholarships that you can apply for on a merit basis. I have not applied for Permanent Settlement in the country, but I would consider staying here if I could. The University makes you aware of many opportunities that could help you transition into settling down here. Overall, I am very satisfied with the University.
Likes (Part time work): The University of Birmingham provides several opportunities for part-time and casual work. You can manage both academics and part-time work, but off-campus opportunities may require more time and effort. You get paid on an hourly basis, at an average rate of 11 per hour.

Thriving at the Univeristy of Birmingham: Independence, diversity, and opportunity.
Tips: As for the University of Birmingham, it is a great university that prepares you well for the world where you are no longer a kid who only has to worry about grades. Coming here has taught me to be independent financially and mentally. The campus is very diverse which lets me immerse in different cultural experiences. The student union is always there to support you from safety to mental well-being. The University also celebrates every cultural festival from Diwali to Ramadan, which never gives you the feeling of a home away from home. I did secure an academic scholarship for my course which is funded by the university themselves. Although the cost of living is quite high at the moment. But other than that, this is an amazing opportunity for me where I get to do a course I love at an exceptional Russel group university at the heart of Birmingham that offers all the support and advice.
Likes (Internships): The University has a huge careers network, with each college having its own. They provide excellent one-to-one advice on getting work experience, internships, volunteering, full-time jobs, etc. They also provide several other services like mock interviews that prepare you for the real challenge in the application process. For students with zero or very limited experience, the University offers a programme called B-Experienced, through which internships provided by companies offer special spots for students from the University of Birmingham. Hence when it comes to work experience and career in general, the University of Birmingham is a great choice.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The current UK government has tightened immigration policies, which might make permanent immigration options a bit harder. Also, if you secure a good job in a company that is ready to sponsor you, then that's great. However, most postgraduate students struggle with this aspect.

Tips: It is always better to connect with multiple people and faculty members to know what's going on near you and what opportunities exist for the future. I also think joining societies is a great option to keep the stream off while enjoying your university experience. Public transportation in Birmingham is good. It connects the whole city and buses are frequent. However, buses may be delayed due to various reasons, which can be a problem for students commuting to lectures or work during peak hours. I suggest checking the routes and buses beforehand so that you know the average commute time.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I was an international student at the University of Birmingham. I found that there were no jobs at all for international students. I faced extreme competition in finding jobs, and the university didn't provide any guidance or help with these issues. This made the situation worse than it might have been otherwise.

University of Birmingham has a beautiful and huge campus.
Tips: The campus is beautiful and there are a lot of activities to do, so you won't feel bored during your initial couple of weeks. After that you get busy with assignments and academics, so you'll spend most of the time going back and forth from the lectures to your accommodation, and part-time work. Like in India, there's not much pressure on studies, which can either be a good or a bad thing. I'm happy with the fact that the university is well-recognised and gives students career guidance. The current job market is tough in the UK to get a job, so only time will tell whether it's worth it or not.
Likes (Safety): Safety can be a matter of different experiences for different people. I never had safety concerns even when walking down the street late at night. Of course, you need to be a bit cautious of your surroundings. The campus does provide an app, and some safety gadgets during the welcome week, as well as a free bus to Sell Oak to travel when it gets dark during winter.
Dislikes (Public transportation): You can travel by train or bus. Buses are usually more connected than trains but are generally late, and it doesn't matter if you check the scheduled time on Google Maps or bus stop, they will make you wait for 15-20 minutes 90% of the time. I also don't think public transport is very affordable. It's 2 pounds for a ticket whether you want to get off at the Next bus stop or after the 15 bus stop. A monthly bus pass is now 49 pounds for students, but they keep increasing the price every year. Last year it was 46 pounds.

An amazing experience that needs a closure.
Tips: Students should be open to everything the university has to offer. Embrace the life that comes along with it. It's simple but effective in the long run, and you won't regret it later on. Of course, there will always be things you couldn't be a part of, but that's okay. Cherish the rest of your time there, and you'll look back and cherish it all for sure. I'm pretty satisfied with my time at University College Dublin.
Likes (Part time work): They've got a pretty good system for roles within the university and I'm a recipient of them. If going through the right channel and succeed in your interviews/assessment centres, the opportunities within the university are crazy for part-time. It is quite manageable with your coursework given the fact that you have good time management skills. The average payout is 12/hour.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): It's pretty fragile and extremely difficult to obtain sponsorship after the course commences and the Graduate visa is granted. I wouldn't likely want to permanently immigrate here as I've got other preference in life and this country doesn't fulfil them all.

Navigating growth, challenges, and opportunity in university life.
Tips: Before starting university, make sure you're comfortable with basic household tasks like cooking and cleaning. Students spend a lot of time studying, and learning these skills ahead of time can save you considerable time and help you keep up with the assignments, attend classes, and still enjoy university life. Birmingham is a fantastic city with access to nearly everything you might need, from Indian utensils and spices to food and there's almost nothing you won't find. However, if your mood is affected by the weather, be prepared for long stretches of gray, rainy days, with little sunlight for 6-7 months. The climate can be challenging, so building emotional resilience is helpful as well.
Likes (Public transportation): Buses are very frequent and you can get a bus in 5-10 minutes. The university has also its own bus service which is run for specific routes every day. The university has an integrity rail on the campus which also connects to the major and minor stations of the city.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): All the big 4 and MBB companies visited the university for the job fairs and offered internships and advice for the proper route for full-time jobs and with several on-campus activities to polish your soft and hard skills. The starting salary of a Business analyst with no or little experience at all is 338500 to 346000.

Tips: Living in the first year with flatmates of many backgrounds was interesting however there was not a huge cultural shift. There is a requirement to stay social which can be achieved by joining clubs and societies- sports are highly appreciated. The University Campus is a mixture of historical and modern, almost a reflection of the country. There is a large level of diversity with people from all walks of life. Especially in the course lectures where almost everyone comes from somewhere different.
Likes (Internships): The internship process has been made very simple here at the University. There have been resources provided such as for writing the CV or preparing for an interview. The status of the University is also strong enough that it creates a small advantage over some of the other applicants.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I am still studying at the University and therefore do not have a strong idea as to how helpful they are in assisting for long-term jobs. However, they do provide resources that can aid in CV writing and interview practice which will help when applying for such jobs.

Tips: There was definitely a cultural shift. The people, food, and traditions are definitely different here and it will take some time to get used to all the changes but it is manageable. It can be overwhelming at times. For data science, since it's a demanding course they do not provide any kind of scholarship so that's a sad thing.
Likes (Indian Food): There are a crazy amount of restaurants and cuisines for all kinds of people and cultures. The prices are alright but some of the restaurants do offer students discounts so that is a good thing. The food is good and you basically have millions of options to choose from.
Dislikes (Value for money): I really liked the campus and the facilities were good. I would recommend trying to get a job at the university as it is definitely beneficial. The university shares a lot of resources so there is no need to invest in any kind of personal resources. There are lots of career fairs and opportunities but it's difficult for international students to get a decent full-time job.

My Great College Experience.
Tips: I got the opportunity to connect with a lot of students and made some great friends. I also had the opportunity to do an internship and gain some valuable experience in the UK market. The university has a lot of cultural societies that put on a variety of events, so there's always something to do. The university also offers scholarships for international students, which is a big help. I stood for the selection in my university and won that with a good number of votes and currently, I am working with the University as an Activities and Employability Officer. I'm very happy with my university experience and would highly recommend it to anyone considering studying abroad.
Likes (Internships): The University of Birmingham provides a lot of guidance and opportunities for students. The university has partnered with many startup companies to offer internships. These internships are called B-Experienced Internships, and they offer a variety of roles to appeal to a wide range of students. The internships last for 20 days, which students can complete in two to three months while they are studying. Students who complete these internships can earn up to 1600 Pounds.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): The University of Birmingham has lots of career fairs for specific fields and also some of them provide visa-sponsored jobs. The university also provides some visa sponsor jobs to international students. There are various job roles like Business Development Manager, Communication and Marketing roles and supply chain management roles and students expect their starting package from 24000 to 35000 Pounds.

Tips: I love the culture here in Belfast. The people are amazing and friendly, both in Belfast and in other cities in Northern Ireland. I got a PGT scholarship with an early bird offer of 2000+1500 = 3500. After subtracting the scholarship amount, I paid the fee amount. I am very satisfied with the course, the country, and the university.
Likes (Part time work): I spend my day walking from the student accommodation to my university, which takes about 15-20 minutes. I love learning with my classmates, and the campus is amazing. The student union is a great place to hang out, socialize, and work. They have a piano and organize many events, including career fairs, festivals, and treasure hunts. There are also many clubs, including hiking, sports, equestrian, education, spiritual, and water sports clubs.
Dislikes (Internships): The faculty encourages and trains students to work on their part to understand and learn the subject by giving application-based assignments. Wonderful city and university of love in with multiple opportunities to take on.
Tips: There is going to be a cultural shift academically as well as in general. Coming from a small town I have seen a lot of cultural socks here in my first month. I received a scholarship of 6000 pounds from QUB. It was based on my SOP. I am very satisfied with all of these factors, the university is amazing, the people are very helpful and generous, and the course is on point with my preference. Overall, I am quite satisfied with the course, country and university.
Likes (Part time work): Belfast is a comparatively small town but has a lot of part-time role opportunities across all domains. On-campus roles are pretty hard to accomplish as a lot of people apply for them at once. It sometimes gets hard to manage your day with part-time and lectures. It's right down to the minimum wage.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Due to competition from other applicants, it is pretty hard to land a job of your interest. However, if you start early at applying to internships and placement while semesters are running you can get an upper hand on them. LinkedIn is also a very nice tool to make new connections that will help you land a role. All kinds of marketing roles are available starting from approximately. 18000-30000 year.

Tips: Before joining Queen's University Belfast, students should know that the university offers a supportive and diverse environment with a strong emphasis on academic excellence and extracurricular activities. Transitioning here was smooth, though I did experience a cultural shift. The friendliness and warmth of the people in Belfast made it easy to adapt to the new surroundings. The university also provides various resources to help international students settle in, from orientation programs to dedicated support services. I did not avail of any scholarships, but I know that Queen's offers a range of scholarships for international students, which can be applied for based on academic merit or specific criteria. I am highly satisfied with my university, the M.Sc. Finance course, and living in Belfast. The city is welcoming, and the academic environment at Queen's is both challenging and rewarding, offering numerous opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Likes (Student Life): I rated my student life at Queen's University Belfast a 5 because it offers a vibrant and enriching experience. Living in Queen's University accommodation has allowed me to be fully immersed in the university community. My day typically starts with lectures and group study sessions, followed by spending time with friends in the student union or exploring the beautiful campus. What I enjoy most about my college life is the diversity of activities available. The campus is always buzzing with events, from academic workshops and guest lectures to cultural festivals and sports competitions. I regularly participate in these events, as they offer a great way to learn, socialize, and relax. Queen's also has a wide range of student clubs and societies that cater to various interests, including finance, sustainability, arts, and sports. I'm actively involved in the Sustainable Finance Society, where we discuss and promote sustainable practices within the finance industry. This has not only allowed me to pursue my passion but also to connect with like-minded individuals. Tips: After joining the college there will be huge cultural shift and cultural shocks. Develop a mindset to embrace the culture open heartedly. There will be a scholarship depending on your merit and they deduct it from total fees. I am partially satisfied with university, course, and country. Because the course was not entirely taught as promised for non technical students and they expected us to learn by ourselves and complete the course. This was a huge blow to non technical students.
Likes (Part time work): There are plenty of part time jobs on campus and around the campus. It's hard to manage studies and jobs at the same time but increases time management skills. Basic pay for all jobs. You need to manage the time schedules for job and academic works. If you are unable to manage, there are support systems to help you complete academic work from university.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Due to change of rules, there is almost no chance of getting permanent settlement. An international student is given only a last priority. It is absolutely tough to compete with the native here for job hunting. If given a chance, I would definitely opt for permanent settlement.

Tips: Try to get to know about the weather. About the nearby places of university.
Apply for all the scholarships which you are eligible for. Try to connect with your alumni.
Acceptance of new changes both good and bad is a good skill to have. Be ready for challenges since life abroad is not what you see on social media.
Likes (Value for money): QUB offers high range of scholarships which makes the course fee more affordable and value for money.
Fees compared to other universities in mainland UK, QUB offer very competitive and good fees. Also, payment options are flexible and offer more discounts if you pay in full in advance .
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): A permanent settlement takes 5 years in the UK. To reach that you need to find a sponsorship job which will help you to stay in for longer terms. Also rules by the UK home office change very often so bit uncertain to predict the future. But again not impossible to get a PR.

A course in QUB is a real time challenge and if you are really passionate about the subject.
Tips: I did get a real good experience out of my degree, not only academically but I did grow a lot in the real world understanding the job prospects and real-world skill set. I did get a scholarship based on my undergrad score in India at the time in 2020 but unsure today how the scholarships are awarded. I loved this large university in a small country.
Likes (Safety): Crime rate is the lowest and you feel safe to walk at any place even if it is dark and isolated in a remote area because the response rate for emergency services is really quick. I had an instance where police had to issue a fine to us as we broke a Covid house restriction but that's a pretty small fine though.
Dislikes (Indian Food): We don't find many Indian/Bangladeshi/Pakistani Restaurants in Belfast compared to other cities in the UK or Ireland as Northern Ireland has transportation challenges, I did cook mostly on my own. An average Indian dinner would cost an individual nearly 315-320.

The university offers many opportunities to grow.
Tips: Be ready to take on any opportunities that come. Be sure to study well, as it is not that hard to pass unless you put in the required effort. And also make sure to have fun too as the city has a lot of things to offer. The college also has a lot of programmes that are beneficial to students, so make sure to check them out.
Likes (Value for money): University has nice affiliation and the modules are relevant and well thought. All professors are well educated and helpful. The course also has a lot of assignments that are relevant to the job market and various subject expertise, but scoring in assignments also depends on the professor and his views.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): You have a chance to get PSW after you study for 2 more years. I wouldn't personally immigrate here but it does offer scope if you want to. Everything depends on the job you get, and the Visa sponsorship that your job might offer. It takes 5 years of sponsored visa to get permanent residence.

Leaving your comfort zone, yet finding comfort.
Tips: After taking admission in QUB, I haven’t had any problem and being in Belfast is the best kickstart for any student to start their new journey in the UK, as everything comes around to your budget. The professors interact with the students very well and they do not hesitate to clear the doubts. The college lectures are all offline but you do get study material online and research papers that help us in our assignment and exam preparation. There is a 3 floor library and a Riddel hall where you can do group study by booking the room. A graduate school is there as well which is beautiful and peaceful to study alone. The university has a sports centre including sports like private classes for yoga, aqua jogging, Pilates or dance, swimming, badminton, gym, rock climbing and much more.
The university offers various clubs to join such as Tai Jutsu, badminton club, caving club, skydiving club, dance club for especially for south Asian students, etc.
After completing the course, Queens has their app called ‘Simplicity’ where you can see which companies are hiring and there are graduate programs as well. Internships are also available which you can do only after you are done with your graduation, since it requires 40 hours of work every week and as a student, we are allowed only 20 hours. The Queen’s itself has cafes and student’s union where you can work part-time. QUB also comes under the Russell Group which is great for your CV.
As a student, everyone faces some or the other problem, but you have professors to give you advice and the university also offers support for the student’s well-being.
I realize that I took the right decision to choose QUB and I would recommend it to others as well but also, an honest suggestion would be getting into QUB in the September intake is preferable than the January intake.

Tips: It belongs to the prestigious Russell group of Universities. Students should learn some skills back from their home country that would help them to maneuver through their academic and social life. Also, have their CV tailored as per the UK requirements
Likes (Safety): Safety depends on the area of residence and the area of travel. I was fortunate to live in student accommodation at ulster University and Queen's University during my course but in the last two months, I will be shifting outside the campus accommodation.
Dislikes (Quality of faculty): In my second semester almost there were two months of academic strike that caused concern but later was resolved. Not all faculties are full time working so you have to take appointments. The online library & extra activities help for academic and job purposes.

Tips: Get ready to take up academics seriously with the programs offered to be research intensive in terms of assignments and exams. Engaging in several university clubs and events will provide ample exposure to leadership and is also fun. Learn a thing or two about Irish culture.
Likes (Internships): Belfast is a booming city with a lot of upcoming business opportunities. Local companies hire interns and part time employees. Plenty of summer internships are available with decent pay. Regular effort in applying for internships is required to reach out to employers but the hiring process is fair and square.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are limited options for Indian cuisine and can often be pricey. Having local food is quite feasible. Being a vegetarian is a little difficult but can work with a lot of recent vegan options popping up in different parts of Belfast. Buying at a local grocery and cooking can prove advantageous.

Good university, very cheap living cost and good for IT students
Tips: The university is very friendly with people and you can have many different clubs to join. From all other universities in UK, this is the cheapest with living rates. There is a variety of different food options however the city isn't as lively as London or Dublin so just make sure you know it'll get a bit quiet at times.
Likes (Indian Food): There are many Indian restaurants around here, like at least 4 at minimum. You can easily order food from delivery or visit them. Also, there are pretty decent Indian shops around where you can buy all the items from India, all original. They're pretty good and you can find almost anything you need.
Dislikes (Part time work): Part time work personally for me has been a bit hard to find but others around me have gotten part-time work pretty easily. I tried applying for part-time jobs in restaurants and other jobs such as receptionist but I never got a response back from anywhere.

Queens college is good for cyber security course
Tips: As it is a cybersecurity degree, knowledge of ethical hacking or industry experience will help a lot to grasp the study material. While doing the degree, you can also pursue certificates like Splunk, CEH, CompTIA etc as they will help you in the recruitment process.
Likes (Safety): When we joined the course, the structure of the classes was okay. In a month, the first week was reading week, the next was the classes, and the exam was on the last day. The third and fourth week was reserved for the coursework. After our batch, the structure was changed which made the course more efficient. You have to help yourself and study very hard as the exam pattern is very different from that of India.
Dislikes (Value for money): The faculty had a lot of credibilities. They helped us whenever we had any doubts. The course content was also good and explained thoroughly. Mostly, all the professors are PhD and have immense knowledge. But now, the faculty is changed so please check the Queen's faculty page.

Likes (Student Life): It's good. People and faculty are helpful.
Food and transportation is cheap.
Student accommodation is preferred.
Private accomodation you might not get it as the volume is more and most probably the landlords prefer people who are working and settled.
Apart from that you can opt for university Accomodation as they would provide you all the facilities
Dislikes (Internships): Haven't got any internship till yet but still searching. There are a lot of opportunities, however you need to search for the one that suits you the best when you are pivoting.
There will be a lot of roles open for your current domain but you might struggle if you are changing the domain.
