MS Computer Science and Engineering - Batch of 2026
4.6
University of Michigan is multi dimensional with good academics.
Tips: Students should not stress about their studies or other things, as things will happen automatically. Instead, students should be active and explore as many things as they can. There are almost 20 activities offered each week at the college, and students should participate in them all.
Likes (Post study jobs): There are many companies available which are providing visa sponsorship. Students can get good jobs with a good paycheck if they have some domain knowledge and expertise. All sectors are good here to get some good jobs but mainly, automotive and electrical.
Dislikes (Public transportation): The public transportation system at the University of Michigan is not very well connected, and there are very few options available. Students mostly use the college shuttle bus to get to and from campus or go shopping. Other than that, students can't rely on public transportation and have to book a cab, as there is no other option.

Thriving in a diverse and challenging academic environment.
Tips: Students should be prepared for a rigorous academic environment, plenty of extracurricular activities, and a diverse student body. Time management is crucial to balance coursework and activities. The transition was smooth but adapting to Michigan's weather and a more independent, fast-paced academic life required adjustment. The diversity on campus made cultural adaptation easier. I got a teaching assistant position, which covers my tuition completely and offers a generous stipend on top. I'm highly satisfied with the University of Michigan's academic rigour and opportunities. The courses are challenging but rewarding, and the US provides ample avenues for professional growth.
Likes (Public transportation): Ann Arbor is a college town, so the city is built around the campus itself. There are two kinds of buses running throughout the day, one is public buses run by the city, and the second are buses run by the university itself. Both of these are free for students.
Dislikes (Value for money): The tuition fee is on the higher side for the University of Michigan, especially considering that it is a public university. For engineering programs, that fee may be somewhat justified due to the career outcome, but for other programs, it is not at all financially a good decision.

Interesting and one of a kind University.
Tips: It is important to ensure your safety by being aware about your locality and potential danger owing to the crime rate. My overall experience has been positive as the locals are friendly and there are student-friendly options to explore as well. You should also try to be a part of the communities and campus culture as that can help you further in social engagement.

It truly changed my life for the better
Tips: A very well-balanced university for a range of fields. There are many opportunities to engage with interests outside your main field of study. Great options to save on living costs. If you enjoy a small-town life with pretty much most amenities, Ann Arbor is a great choice.

Loved every bit of my time at this University
Tips: People are very kind and friendly in Ann Arbor. I am very satisfied with the university with the courses provided and the research opportunities available. My suggestion is to try and reach out to professors early so that you can avail the opportunity to participate in research.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Companies willing to sponsor are decreasing gradually for the Automotive field. Opportunities are available in different roles, and compensation is very good and is different from company to company. Compensation is also varied on any previous work experience.

Great University Experience
Tips: The faculty and student body are some of the best in the world. The academics and project work have a perfect balance. The cherry on top is that you will find a group of people that have the same interests as you no matter what your hobbies are. The sports are also amazing here.

Weather here will take time adjusting to.
Tips: The winters are too cold and it's not easy at first but you get used to it. I am satisfied with the course and the country. Getting a scholarship for international students is difficult but not impossible. I take care of my rent and food and all the expenses with the part-time job and only need to worry about the college fees.
Likes (Part time work): On campus jobs are always available and are pretty easy to get. And managing part-time depends on the person, but for me, it's been pretty easy.
16 dollars an hour is the pay I get right now. That is pretty reasonable, but the pay really depends on the work.
Dislikes (Internships): There are career fairs happening frequently, and students do get internships through that, but it mainly depends on the student and majorly get internship applying individually but college does help out with the stuff you need. There are relevant internships available for my field of study.

4.7
One of the best Robotics Program
Tips: Transition was not very tough but the cold weather was an issue. Since it snows a lot here, the Winters are tough but the environment and the city are very nice and beautiful. It is a college town so it has many culturally diverse restaurants and bars. Scholarships are rare and the tuition fee is very high so make the decision keeping that in mind. I am very satisfied with the university and programme since I have a lot of freedom in course selection and there are many opportunities.
Likes (Student Life): The college has a lot of groups and communities for different affinities and are very welcoming. The college organizes many fun events to meet new students. There is always something happening in campus. You can definitely find something which interests you. Also, there are many restaurants and clubs near the university where you can socialize with others.
Dislikes (Part time work): Most of the part time is dining jobs which is very exhausting but pays enough that you can pay your monthly expenses. You can manage the part-time work with the academics but it can be demanding. The average payout for these jobs is 15 dollars/hr which is the minimum wage of the state Michigan.

University of Michigan - Academic Oriented and diverse (little expensive)
Tips: Pros:
Community: The campus town is safe and very diverse. Have a great public transport free for university students which connects all parts of town and the university. Transportation: Detroit airport is the nearest airport of 30 minutes drive and has connections to all major destinations in USA along with some flights to India. Academics: The university has excellent faculty and courses among various departments.
Living expenses: Living expenses are reasonable and not too high.
Research: There are some good works happening in various domains with well known faculty members.
Curriculum: Flexible and friendly academic offices.
Cons:
High tuition: Despite being a public university, the tuition is high and the chances of getting a full tuition waiver are low.
CPT: Be aware of the CPT regulations by the university. You have to be a full-time student even if you are doing an internship during the semester. (Co-op) No restrictions for summer internships. Overall it will be a good experience for international students.
Likes (Indian Food): There are many Indian restaurants in the locality, near the campus. You can also find many other options such as Thai, Chinese, mexican, Mediterranean. A typical meal costs around $7-11. I would prefer cooking by myself because it saves a lot of money.
Dislikes (Part time work): There are many on campus part time jobs but highly competitive. You need to apply early to get one. It's tough to find an off-campus part time for international students.
Don't be disappointed if you cannot find one immediately after joining, they will be opening even during the semester and there will be part-time openings in academic roles as well like grade and temp, Research assistant. Part time is manageable and flexible with $15-20 hrs a week. Average pay is around $12-17 USD per hour.

UMich is good for research.
Tips: 1. TA/RAship opportunities are very limited for Master's students. But once you get these roles, your tuition fee is excused and you also receive a handsome monthly stipend
2. The tuition fee is quite high compared to other universities
3. College reputation in the field of IC & VLSI (my field) is very high. Recruiters know of this as well
4. College is very good for research opportunities
Likes (Safety): I have not heard of any violent activity. The city is pretty safe to go for walks post-midnights as well. There is a free ride-sharing option for late-night studies provided by the University. The city itself is mostly composed of students so it feels pretty safe to roam around. People are very friendly and seldom rude.
Dislikes (Value for money): The fee is considerably high compared to other Master's programs in the US. I recommend taking a look at the tuition structure on the college website. However, you can opt for a payment plan by which you can pay the semester fee in monthly installments for 5 months.

I feel that this college is such a nice place to explore things and travel to reach our aspirations.
Tips: I've become more determined in my work since coming here. I've experienced a bit of a cultural shift, but I was looking forward to that. Unfortunately, I did not receive any scholarships. My day at UC starts with an on-campus part-time job and ends with classes. The class schedule is flexible, so students can arrange their timetable around their part-time hours. There are many types of events on campus, including regional events, blood drives, and awareness programs. There is also a wide range of student clubs and organizations that are very helpful in the growth of students. I'm really happy with the college, the course, and the country.
Dislikes (Safety): The faculty in my department are highly accessible and approachable. The teaching methodologies are unique in that the LMS has all the course modules, which allows us to preview the concepts before class. The teaching faculty is diverse in terms of nationality. I have professors from India, Japan, China, the USA, and Africa.

Amazing University but could use some help in being diverse and inclusive.
Tips: The experience was full of ups and downs. I applied to the university during the application process and was accepted. I was very satisfied with the University of Cincinnati. There are a lot of opportunities, especially for the parents and family ambassador job. The hours are very flexible. The Digital Philanthropy Associate job has fixed hours and must be followed accordingly. If you manage your time well, both jobs are pretty manageable. The starting pay rate for both jobs is 10 Dollars per hour.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): There are multiple companies, but not enough jobs that align with a Business Analytics major. Data analyst, tax accountant, data entry, financial modelling, risk management, insurance management, and wealth management are all positions that start at 75,000 Dollars.

University offers quality education and enriching experience.
Tips: University offers diverse programs and a vibrant campus life, with ample resources and support services for students. The inclusive environment helps ease any cultural shift. Scholarships are available based on merit. The application process is pretty straightforward.
Likes (Indian Food): There are numerous Indian restaurants in Cincinnati, and quite a few around the university campus. There's plenty of options catering to both south and north Indians. If you enjoy cooking, you can find all the ingredients at the nearest Indian grocery store.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): The current market situation is not very favorable and lot of companies are looking for candidates that do not require any visa sponsorship. Quite a few of my peers from the programme are working as data/ business analyst, develops and project managers.

Student life is great here. Affordable transportation.
Tips: You won't see any cultural shift cause you try to live mostly with your community people. I received a scholarship of 4,000 $ along with admission. Our course strength is 70 so the effectiveness of teaching is more. My advice is to aim for college and courses that have less strength. In mass numbers like 600-700, it's absolutely waste of time cause maximum cases learning curve will be very low and there will be a lot of scrap around you.
Likes (Student Life): Cincinnati is affordable, and there are lot of openings for data roles in the city. Campus shuttles save you money and energy, college transportation facilities are really good. Coming to cultural activities there Indian associations led my undergrad students so they will cover the most celebrated festivities.
Dislikes (Part time work): There are lot of incoming students so it's becoming difficult to find on-campus part-time, off-campus you need to be prepared to travel for long distances.
Time management depends on the course, our course had 10 subjects per semester and you can imagine how many assignments we will be dealing with on a daily basis.
Average pay for part-time is 10$.

Expense-wise it is quite reasonable and with a good Co-op program.
Tips: There are scholarship chances. Apply as early as possible. In case, you don't get a scholarship apply for TA and RA positions. MS Information Systems is a fast-paced programme. You will not get to learn courses in-depth but you will get exposure to different IT domains.
Likes (Internships): The University of Cincinnati has a good Co-op programme. MS Information Systems programme has a separate career counsellor and the programme Director conducts seminars every Friday. In these seminars, he brings representatives of the companies and students get to interact with them. Also, there are Career Fair. The programme requires you to complete 24 weeks of internship to graduate so along with academics, students start looking for internships from a very early stage.

Safety is an issue. But value for money overall.
Tips: Get ready to work. Things will not be easy. There is a good possibility for you to not get a part-time. Life is not going to be easy and it will be a big shift financially. Don't forget that you came here to study, which a lot of students forget down the track. This is generally with any university.
Likes (Value for money): The cost of living is rather cheap and you get scholarships based on merit as well. Your amount of expenditure vs income opportunities and risk of a job is better weighed when compared with other universities in the same level/cadre. Scholarship opportunities are big as well.
Dislikes (Safety): The safety in Cincinnati is less. I personally experienced a lot of shooting news and situations. Recently a fellow Indian student was shot too. So always be safe. The campus is close to downtown and has a lot of drug addicts on the road which can be an issue.

Amazing campus life but tough to find part-time jobs.
Tips: The University of Cincinnati has an amazing campus, life is never mundane here. There is always something to do in this city. The main campus has scenic views. All the campuses offer several classes. There are certain requirements and expectations from each and every student. I highly enjoyed my classes here, as they were challenging yet interesting. The majority of the professors are UC graduates. They start from the basics no matter how much previous experience you have. The university is affordable and offers several scholarships. Students should apply for scholarships around the fall of their senior year, as it increases their chances of getting aid. The transportation service is not a problem here as the university has a shuttle running all over the campus on weekdays. At last, I would say that it's a pretty decent university. After graduation, there are many opportunities knocking on your door.
Likes (Indian Food): Cincinnati has many top Indian food restaurants that serve good and tasty food. However, the level of spices used is a bit less when compared to my home country, but still, it is better than any other place. The restaurants offer various Indian dishes and a great ambience. Many students try to cook food on their own even if they don't know how to cook food properly. Well, that's what I have come across while being a student. It's always better to prepare food the way you want. Also, if I put the taste preference aside, the food served in restaurants is not very healthy and is costly at the same time.
Dislikes (Part time work): It is a bit tough to find a part-time job in Ohio, but sooner or later you will land with an opportunity. Most of the students receive around $ 8 as their minimum wage after tax deductions. We can work here for up to 20 hours a week if you are an international student. Both on-campus and off-campus part-time job opportunities are available, but it is a bit difficult to get an on-campus part-time job, as many students, including the local students, digging out for the same opportunity.

Good balance between life and academics
Tips: There are a lot of opportunities to explore various clubs/activities that happen around the year. A great place to express your passion/interest and pursue hobbies other than academics. Scholarships are available by default for most of the Master's programmes. Tuition fees are friendly on the pocket. A nice city to live in beyond academic tenure.
Likes (Indian Food): Lot of Indian restaurants and other cuisine options around the university area. One will never miss Indian food if one lives nearby to the university. Pricing is reasonable as well. Food delivery options are available as well. Most of the Indian restaurants offer a buffet for lunch.
Dislikes (Public transportation): Students can apply for free metro bus pass to take rides anywhere in the city. However, connectivity to all locations might not be there, and if it does, the frequency is less. Largely, one has to rely on Uber/Lyft if you do not wish to take public transportation or own a vehicle.

University of Cincinnati is research oriented and a great value for money.
Tips: The transition here is easy as there are many International students to explore the place with. Good scholarships are available depending on the degree. MS in CEAS students get a GIA award for $20K. Coursework is good with more focus on research. The thesis is mandatory for CEAS MS students so know about it more before coming here.
Dislikes (Part time work): Jobs are available in dining services and other available outlets however many students apply so it is difficult to get one immediately. For an international student off-campus jobs are illegal so I wouldn't recommend doing one. The starting pay here is $10.

We achieve our goals if we can select the best path for us.
Tips: Students need to focus on getting scholarships as there are many opportunities available to get scholarships like TA, RA and GA and you can also be referred by your professors if you perform best in your course. Also, students need to focus on their careers by learning each course they offer and to be aware that the courses they are registering for are helpful or not.
Likes (Value for money): The tuition fees are justified but I think not for MS IT students they need to pay more but if they acquire a job then it’s easy for them. It’s a good college to choose from and many opportunities are available, also the cost of living is way better compared to other cities.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Mostly the jobs are available for core students and software students need to struggle and attend each class to get the best knowledge and attend seminars to improve networking. They must also get more comm in LinkedIn and choose the course wisely.
