UNC Charlotte's Masters in Computer Science programme empowers students to thrive in today's dynamic technological landscape. The programme has a balanced focus on academic rigour and industry relevance. Students have access to modernised labs, collaborative research opportunities with distinguished faculty, and partnerships with leading tech companies in Charlotte's thriving teaching hub. A cozy cultural haven with room to grow.
Tips: Learning to live independent is something that Masters teaches you. It is experienced that cultural differences may rise while relating to a new area. However, given the current trend in Indian population growth, this place is our native. Honestly, a lot of events are celebrated with the same grandeur as in India. There aren't many scholarships offered by UNCC, and I hardly ever saw anyone get one. I think UNCC is an excellent place to study and live, with a well-run curriculum and decent living expenses. When compared to other states, Charlotte's weather is actually quite pleasant.
Likes (Public transportation): There are public bus stops on campus as well as two light rail station that provide convenient access to the city. Buses are available throughout the campus for travel between locations. Additionally, all public transit, including the light rail and public buses, is free for students with a UNCC ID.
Dislikes (Internships): There are really few opportunities to get internships because of the current state of the market. Although there are a lot of companies attending the career fair, as of right now, none of them are interested in sponsoring visas. Thus, it's really hard to find an internship these days.

Tips: This university gives importance to both academics and recreational activities. There are tons of events organized almost every day for recreational purposes and the university has a huge campus. Students are mostly friendly in the campus. After graduation we have great opportunities ahead.

It's important to understand the expectations for self-study, class participation, and research. Checking if the college has a strong support system, such as tutoring, counselling services, and mentorship programs, can also make the transition smoother. Many students experience a cultural shift upon arriving, especially if they're moving to a new country or region. This can include adapting to different teaching style, such as a focus on independent learning versus guided instruction, or adjusting to more collaborative projects
Likes (Student Life): The University of Delaware offers a vibrant student life that greatly enhances the overall college experience. Students can engage in a variety of activities, from joining student organizations to attending campus events. There are over 400 student groups available, including clubs for academics, sports, and creative leadership. The campus hosts regular events like the Perkins Live and Trabant Now series, which offer late-night entertainment such as game shows, live performances, and social gatherings. Additionally, Greek life and club sports are popular avenues for involvement. Student life at UD emphasises building strong connections. Many students form lasting friendships through their residence halls, classes, and extracurricular. The University also encourages students to explore leadership and service opportunities, providing resources such as Involvement Specialists who help students find communities that match their interests.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Several large companies, especially in technology and engineering, such as Intel, Microsoft, Amazon, and Meta, are known to sponsor H-1B visas, offering roles in IT, software, engineering, and data analysis. These positions typically provide competitive salaries, with tech jobs often starting in the range of 70,000 to 100,000 Dollars annually depending on the specific role and experience level. At the University of Delaware, salary structures vary but roles in engineering or IT fields can command salaries from 65,000 to 120,000 Dollars annually. The job market for international students can be challenging but rewarding, with many companies eager to sponsor visas for top talent. Great University for research opportunities.
Tips: UD has the best college life. If you cannot dedicate much time to academics, then the chances of getting a degree here are harder than expected. UD offers a lot of scholarship options, but they are limited depending on the department. If you are in a science-related department, there is a good chance of getting a scholarship. I got a research assistantship in my second year. I got to work in a lab as a Research Assistant for a year on contact. The scholarship waived off my entire tuition fee and I got paid a stipend every month for the whole year.

Amazing opportunity if you are willing to work for it.
Tips: Coming into this country was a very calculated decision I made. Cultural shock per se is very perception. I think with the exposure social media provides, you are bound to know various aspects of different cultures. Given that, one should be ready to accept the fact that you are moving to an entirely new country and ready to face it. Being active and participating in community/college events, trying out new things, and making good friends knowing each of you is exactly going through the same, definitely gives you the support to push through. I did not avail any scholarship apart from a general education of tuition fees from the graduate dean's office right after COVID. But I am sure that if you have good credit in your undergrad, you'll be offered scholarships. I am very much satisfied with what the university has offered in terms of quality education. It is definitely very different from the usual college experience I had at engineering colleges in India. Here, they really let you learn what is expected in a professional setting. Conclusively, USA is definitely the best choice if you want a Masters in Science and Engineering. Actively networking, attending career fairs, and maintaining good grades, while balancing all these with fun gets you out with flying colours.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): The chances of getting permanent immigration status (Green card, Citizenship) are generally high for graduate students MS degree in STEM courses) though it takes longer. Given a proper track record, one can apply and expect to have permanent immigration status in 8-15 years. Given a chance to permanently immigrate to this country, I would personally not choose it, owing to my personal goals. However, it is generally a very cherished opportunity for anyone working here after their masters.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are only a few stores in and around the area of the university where you can get Indian products. Usually takes 30-40 min per ride on public transport to Indian stores. Cooking myself cuts my food and grocery expenses in half. An average meal here cost $10. Though treating oneself occasionally keeps you sane.
