Over one million international students alone in the US universities and more around the world are facing one of the toughest times with the coronavirus pandemic - (COVID 19). The unexpected closure of university campuses

A lot of the US University campuses are closing down throwing international students into confusion. While some universities are making exceptions to allow students on campus, however, many campus services, including libraries, gyms, and dining halls, are closed or are functioning at a reduced capacity for students who are staying behind.

Travel lockdown

With the coronavirus affecting globally, travel restrictions have been imposed. Students are unaware of whether they would be allowed back to their country of education given the uncertainty of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

No access to study essential

Surprise university campus closures are merely the tip of the iceberg. This move has led to students being unable to access study essentials such as financial security, internet access, and a stable place to study. And on top of all this, it is extremely hard to find affordable student accommodation during this time.

The difference in time zones

As university professors scramble to convert their courses to the online medium, there is a problem with the time zone. As a lecture scheduled for 15:00 hrs. at Princeton would take place at 21:00 hrs. in Bucharest.

Difficulties for students on financial aid

There are a lot of international students who are studying on financial aid and are allowed to work on campus. However, with campus closures, the future of students who are perusing their education and working on campus remains uncertain.

Exposed inequalities

A lot of the students who have returned home and are from Tier 2 and Tier 3 countries may not have access to a stable internet connection because of poor infrastructure and thus this has exposed inequalities that were not earlier spoken off.

These are some of the difficulties being faced by International students given the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The World Health Organization has confirmed more than 169,000 cases of the virus around the world, and more than 3,700 have been identified in the US.
