The Finnish economy is one of the most stable in the world. It has a high GDP per capita, low unemployment, and a good balance of trade. Finland has a highly industrialized mixed economy, with a per capita output equal to that of other Western economies such as France, Germany, Sweden or the United Kingdom. Finland's climate and soils make growing crops a particular challenge. However, Finland is one of the most important agricultural producers in Europe; it has nearly 16% of its land area under cultivation and ranks among the top countries in Europe both for arable land per inhabitant and agricultural output per capita. The main field crops are barley, wheat, potatoes and sugar beets; animal husbandry specializes in beef cattle, dairy cows, pigs and sheep.
