The Scholastic Assessment Test is a globally recognized standardized test taken by students seeking admission to undergraduate universities abroad. In India, the SAT exam is conducted seven times a year across March, May, June, August, October, November and December. Applicants need to register for the SAT and choose the desired SAT exam dates based on suitability if they wish to sit for the exam. In this article, we will inform you about SAT exam dates 2024-25, the latest SAT exam dates and result dates so that applicants can plan to take their exam in advance.

sat exam dates

Q:   What are the upcoming SAT test dates for Indian students in 2024?

A:

The upcoming SAT exam dates are scheduled to happen in the following months of 2024:

  • March
  • May
  • June
  • August
  • October
  • November
  • December

College Board releases the SAT exam dates beforehand, which are accessible for students to plan their exam dates ahead. The students must also check for the registration deadlines to avoid extra charges for late registrations.

Q:   When should I appear for SAT exam?

A:

Usually, students take the SAT once they have decided to apply for undergrad abroad. Candidates should plan the test in such a way that they have the SAT scores with them at the time of applying to the colleges. The ideal time to apply for SAT should be after passing out from school after taking a month or two for preparation. The SAT results are released in a matter of few days, this has been possible with Digital SAT in India. Thus, after having your SAT scores you can begin applying to universities abroad.

Thus, applicants must decide on the SAT dates prior so that they do not have to rush at the last hour for preparation and registration. The SAT dates must also be dediced beforehand so that the applicants don't miss out on university deadlines for SAT score submissions. In case of delays applicants may be penalised and may not be considered for admission also where SAT scores are an important part of the admission process.

Q:   Can I apply for same SAT exam date twice?

A:

No, applicants are permitted to make only one account and thus, only one SAT exam date can be chosen. There is no sense in creating two accounts for the same SAT exam date on College Board. Applicant will get only one chance to appear for any one chosen SAT exam date and cannot appear twice on the same exam date. Thus, ensure to be practical and make the correct choice while selecting an exam date and creating a single account. Multiple accounts of the same person for SAT registrations can lead to permanent ban on the applicant for appearing for any SAT exam date.

Q:   What is the process of rescheduling SAT dates?

A:

In order to reschedule a SAT exam date, applicants will have to cancel the existing SAT registration for which they will be charged based on the timeline of cancellation either USD 29 or USD 39. After the registered SAT date has been cancelled, applicants have to re-register for a new SAT exam date.

Note: Previously there was an option for rescheduling the SAT exam with an additional charge, but now applicants have to cancel the registration and pay the fee, then register again and again pay the fee.

Thus, it is recommended that applicants decide when to sit for the SAT exam and apply in one go so that changes are not required to be made. This will help them avoid additional charges for cancellation and then for re-registration.

2024-2025 SAT Test Dates and Registrations

Q:   How to select appropriate SAT exam date?

A:

Usually students prefer to give the SAT exam while in class XII or after passing out from high school. Plan to take the SAT test in such a way that at the time of the application process you have SAT scores with you. Appropriate SAT exam dates should be chosen in such a manner that students have good preparation and ample practice on mock tests. Also students must ensure to have their SAT scores in hand right before applying to foreign universities.

Appropriate exam date selection for SAT is also based on the applicant's university deadlines or the kind of time they would need to prepare for the exam. SAT exam dates are predefined and hardly change hence, the dates for SAT dates that are upcoming are also posted on the official website. Thus, applicants will have enough time to decide which SAT date they can choose to appear for the exam because the ultimate goal is to send the SAT scores to universities the applicants have to apply to so that the process of admission is not delayed.

Q:   How many times is SAT conducted in a year?

A:

SAT exam is conducted seven times in a year, in India and globally. The SAT exam is conducted in the following months annually:

  1. March
  2. May
  3. June
  4. August
  5. October
  6. November
  7. December

SAT exam is conducted on Saturdays of the above-given months. Sunday testings are unavailable in India. Applicants can check out the latest dates on - SAT Exam Dates.

Q:   What factors affect in choosing the right SAT exam dates?

A:

The timing for your SAT is extremely important to reap its benefits in full. The timing for your SAT exam date should be ideally governed by the following factors.

  • When Are Your College Application Deadlines?  This should be your primary deciding factor. Candidates are advised to appear for their SAT exams in advance to avoid any last-minute hassle. Ideally, candidates should apply 3-4 months in advance to experience a smooth college application procedure.
  • Are You Applying for SAT Scholarships?  This is another important factor. Candidates who are looking to apply for scholarships that require you to provide SAT Scores should apply in advance as scholarships usually take a longer time to process and include a lot of paperwork.
  • How Many Times Will You Take the SAT?  The validity for your SAT Score is a period of 5 years and there is no limit on the number of times a candidate can appear for his SAT Exam. Hence, a candidate can start early and appear as many times as he/she likes.
  • How Much Study Time Will You Need?  Candidates who take a longer time to study should schedule their exams as per their requirements. The SAT is an expensive exam and candidates are always recommended to prepare entirely and be sure of their performance before booking an exam slot.

Q:   Is there a the process of changing SAT dates without additional charges?

A:

No, there is no process of changing SAT dates without additional charges. This is for students who are unable to sit for SAT exam on their chosen date while registering can either cancel taking the SAT exam or register for another date with an additional fee of USD 25. Students can make a choice by logging on to their College Board profile and select the appropriate option of either cancelling taking the SAT exam or altering the SAT exam date to a later date with an additional fee. Once the student makes the choice, he or she can save their changes and submit. But it is always better for applicants to make a choice in the first go rather than making changes to SAT dates later on.

Q:   In how much time are SAT results declared after exam is conducted?

A:

SAT score results are declared within two weeks of exam conduction. It usually takes 13-14 days for College Board to release the scores of SAT exam for the applicant, but the score reports take some more time to be relased. Within a week or two the score reports with SAT exam scores are sent to the colleges the applicant had selected during SAT exam registrations. Thus, applicants should ensure that the SAT exam date they choose, the results of the exam align with their admission applications. Also the time for sending the SAT score reports should also be taken into account.

Q:   In how much time does College Board release SAT Digital result in comparison to old SAT exam?

A:

Since SAT Digital is the new way of taking test that is, online and the duration of the test has reduced, the time of SAT result declaration has also reduced. When SAT was tested on paper the results were released in 3 weeks but SAT Digital results are released in a span of 12-13 days from the date of examination. Students can sit for SAT exam accordingly and send across their SAT scores to the respective universities they are applying to. Applicants must ensure that they sit for that SAT exam date, where they can get their SAT score results within the application submission timeline

Q:   Based on College Board SAT result dates, are SAT results delivered on the announced dates?

A:

Yes, College Board releases the SAT exam dates, SAT exam registration dates along with when the SAT exam results will be declared. Hence, there are rarely any changes in the proposed dates or timelines as released by College Board for SAT aspirants. Thus, applicants should keep themselves updated with the exam dates and exam result dates as well.

How to Register for SAT Exam?

Students can register for SAT exam online and through the mail. In the online process, students need to create a profile on the College Board’s official website. Then select the test date and centre and pay the examination fee online. Students can easily register online or even after the deadline has passed with a late fee. For registration, students need to check the SAT exam dates. Applicants can register for the SAT exam in India online easily, check out below:

Online Application Registration for SAT

  • Create a student profile on the College Board website
  • Choose a test date and test centre (Sunday testing or the option to choose a test centre closer to home is not offered)
  • You will receive an immediate registration confirmation
  • Pay the exam fee through a credit/debit card or online funds transfer.
  • Registration deadlines are typically about three to four weeks before a test date.
  • Late registration deadlines are typically about two to three weeks before the test date, and registering late will incur a late fee

Q:   Can I select multiple SAT dates while registering for SAT exam?

A:

While registering for SAT exam students are permitted to choose only one SAT exam date. There is no option of making multiple selections for SAT exam dates on College Board. Students ideally should prepare themselves and ensure that they apply for the SAT date only when they are able to sit for the exam and score as per their expectations. Thus, making changes to SAT dates is possible but multiple selections are not. Applicants should thus, make up their minds before hand and then make the final choice because altering choices can be costly for them at a later stage.

Q:   How can Indian students easily register for SAT exam?

A:

The ideal way to register for SAT exam as an Indian student is through the online mode. Since the process of online SAT registration is easier, more flexible and accessiblilty is any day better, it is only feasible to apply for the SAT exam online. The process of offline registration for SAT can be tedious and may not allow students to make changes in the already submitted application.

Also those who wish to re-register for SAT if they miss on the already registered SAT date is possible through the online application mode and not applicable for offline registration modes. In case the applicants wish to register for the SAT exam on a late registration deadline, then this is also possible through the online mode in place of the time taking offline mode of application.

Thus, if applying as an Indian national, the applicants can register for the SAT exam online and submit their photographs also at a later date, make possible changes at a given point of time, easily switch SAT exam dates and register for another SAT exam easily or even apply for the SAT exam on a late registration date, plus making payments for the SAT exam is for sure better and safer online rather the time taking demand draft payment for the offline mode of registration. Hence, Indian applicants should choose to go with the SAT online registration rather than the offline registration.

Q:   Is there a chance of SAT exam dates change after they are announced?

A:

Yes, SAT exam dates are predetermined by College Board, thus, when applicants are applying for SAT exam they can see only two or three test dates. Out of these two or three test dates, applicants have to choose any one of the test dates. The SAT dates are official on the website while registering and are not subject to change. All details selected pertaining to SAT dates and centres are incorrigible at a later stage post submission. Also, there is rare chance of SAT dates getting changed or altered, thus, if any such thing happens, students will be informed way before the exam is conducated. Plus alternative options will also be provided.

Q:   How I will know whether my SAT test centre is open or closed on the chosen SAT date?

A:

In case the SAT exam centre is closed, the applicant may have to alter his/her selected centre and choose another one. This option is open for a  free switch before the applications for SAT exam are submitted. Once the SAT exam form is submitted, the exam centre change will require fee of USD 25 for a change.

Q:   Can I reschedule SAT exam for the same SAT exam centre as before?

A:

Applicants can reschedule their SAT exam date but there is no guarantee of getting an option for the same SAT exam centre. In some cases an applicant may find a spot at the previously chosen SAT exam centre as before may be available and in some cases it may not be available. This is why it is advised that students must make up their minds before choosing an exam date or centre. However, in case of genuine reasons, the option for rescheduling and changing the exam date and centre respectively are also available.

Q:   Can students swap the SAT dates without changing the original SAT centre for taking the exam?

A:

No, applicants will not be allowed to enter the SAT exam centre if the details of the SAT date and registrations do not match. Students will have to appear for their SAT exam on their selected SAT date only and not before or after the chosen date. Once the SAT date of exam is missed, applicants will have to apply again and then appear for the exam. Please note, that such tactics will not prove beneficial for the applicants.

Hello Hrishi! In case you take your SATs after completing your high school, you can still submit your admission application, without SAT exam scores. A window opens for universities abroad to submit scores within that period, and you can update your SAT scores or score reports can be sent officially
