For this Master's program, Applicants need a Bachelor's degree (at least 180 credits) or an equivalent first professional qualification that meets the following requirements:
- Political science courses of at least 90 credit points and an overall grade of 1.5 or better
- At least 20 credits from courses in the field of international relations / international organizations
- at least one career-oriented internship in this subject area or one semester abroad;
- at least 15 credits from courses on the relevant qualitative and quantitative methods of empirical social research

Applicants who do not sufficiently meet requirements 1 to 4 but have an overall grade of at least 2.3 can be admitted if their studies, CV and motivation show that they are particularly suitable. The following factors will be taken into account:
- Scope and grades of the courses particularly relevant to the Master's degree programme as well as the thesis in the first professional qualification;
- study-relevant international experience;
- study-relevant practical experience and additional qualifications; and
- relevant individual areas of interest and reflected ideas about the content and requirements of the course of study, as they emerge in particular from the letter of motivation and curriculum vitae, which show the previous career relevant to the course, acquired knowledge and skills, personal goals and the ability to study.
