The general welfare of a nation's people is a better indication of that nation's greatness than are the achievements of its rulers, artists, or scientists.

Response for GRE Sample Essay 6

I personally agree to this claim because the contribution of rulers, artists, or scientists is of no use until and unless it is used in favour of the people of a nation. Think about a ruler for instance. Who is a ruler actually? Someone who rules people of a particular region and is supported by people of that region because he works for their benefit. Let’s take into consideration a nation which has an excellent military base, uses the most updated technology, is always war ready because it possesses nuclear weapons but on the other hand is pervaded by poverty and unemployment. Will you call such a nation a great nation?

It is the responsibility of the government to keep the interests of its people in mind before taking any decision because ultimately it’s the people who have elected them because they have faith that the government is capable enough to take right decisions.

The other question that arises here is what do scientists and artists do. Scientists make inventions and artists represent what is happening in the society through their art. Some artists even mock society through their art. This shows that even scientists and artists who are an integral part of our nation keep the people of a nation in mind. Only if the work of these scientists and artists are used for the welfare of the people of the nation can prosper.

A nation is called ‘great’ only if its citizens are educated, has adequate employment opportunities, protects its citizens with strict law enforcement and a responsible police force for keeping a check if the laws are being followed or not. A nation should have a strong economy where more and more job opportunities are created for people, which in turn leads to economic development.

Therefore, a nation’s greatness can be judged if its citizens are happy. If citizens feel protected in the country they reside and have all the facilities they require they will also consider it as their social responsibility to do something for their nation which will help a nation to prosper and will also be praised by the leaders of other nations. India is slowly paving its way towards a great nation because its leaders are trying its best to do everything possible for the interests of its citizens. All nations should consider the welfare of its citizens to be the most important responsibility because ultimately everything related to a nation is for the people by the people and of the people.

The argument has an analysis that seems to be somewhat vague because of the lack of concrete evidence regarding the reasons behind the bad habits of teenagers. A better way of assessing the argument is to provide effective ways of rehabilitating teens from such activities so that they do not get back to the wrong path again. For more topics, visit: GRE Essay Topics with Answers
