Impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) on the higher education sector

Unless you have been living under a rock, you would be well aware of the fact that for the past three months, the world has put up a brave yet hopeless fight against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). First reported from Wuhan in China on December 2019, the virus has spread to over 120 countries, with the worst affected being the Republic of China, Republic of Korea, Iran, Italy, France, Spain, Germany and the United States of America and this number only looks to swell with every passing day. In this article, we have given what all measures every major country is taking. Also, we have given information about major universities and the steps they are taking to contain this pandemic.

Effects of Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Study Abroad students

The devastating ripple effects of the coronavirus (COVID-19) has also been felt in the study abroad industry. A recent study conducted by QS Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd. In February 2020 shows how study abroad plans of 61% of students were not affected by the current global health crisis, while 27% of students felt otherwise.

Of the 27% of students whose study abroad plans have been affected due to the ongoing pandemic crisis, 37% want to defer their admission to next year, 33% intend to study in a different country and 11% want to no longer pursue their education overseas. In the hindsight, these numbers show that the impact of coronavirus on international student recruitment is going to be short-lived. READSAT India Test Centre Update due to Coronavirus outbreak

How is Coronavirus affecting Study Abroad Students?

Effects of Coronavirus (COVID-19) on the Indian Economy

Declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) – the coronavirus (COVID-19) has brought the travel and tourism industry to its knees especially with the Indian government suspending all tourists and e-visas up till April 15, 2020. Indian travelers have also been cautioned against non-essential travel till further notice. The pandemic has also served a severe blow to the Indian economy bringing employment to a standstill as India faces a sharp decline in economic growth for the next two quarters as the coronavirus (COVID-19) has affected the economic spectrum. This will eventually hurt those who are planning to pursue their higher education overseas, as arranging funds is one of the most important aspects of study abroad.
