University of Limerick Placement overview
The University of Limerick (UL) has been voted Ireland’s most popular university by the Irish students, with an 85% satisfaction rate. The university introduced cooperative education in the country with over 2,000 students getting paid and semi-paid jobs in a year (30% international placements). The work experience which UL students gain through internships, co-ops, volunteering, etc makes them highly sought after by the top market players around the world.
UL was awarded prestigious 5-star rankings for graduate employability, innovation and knowledge transfer, teaching, engagement, internationalisation and infrastructure by QS Stars independent assessors. Even the graduate employment rate of the university is 15% more than that of the national average.
The article contains the responses of 4,334 surveyed graduates. Out of the lot surveyed, 75% directly started working after graduation. 7% had a job in international locations. This was lesser than the previous year due to the imposed travel restrictions caused by the pandemic. It was observed that there was a positive relationship between obtaining higher education and higher employment rate, with 96% of students with a PhD/Research degree and 80% of those with a post-graduate degree working.

This was followed by the Professional, Scientific and Technical sector at 15%, Financial, Insurance and Real Estate at 14% and Industry at 13%. Although Education stands last in the list with an 11% employment rate, it still is an important sector that employs university graduates.
Most of the UL graduates choose the Wester Corridor (West, Mid-West & South West) for employment. These locations had a graduate employment rate of 63%. The employment rate in the East stood at 26%. At the international level, North America had 29% of UL graduates employed, the EU had 25% of UL graduates and 23% found employment in the UK.
