DAAD Releases Strategy 2030; Focuses On Attracting International Students To Germany

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has announced the Strategy 2030. It has set four priority areas including finding solutions to global challenges; strengthening Germany as a location for science, innovation and business; promoting democracy and social cohesion; and expanding science diplomacy. DAAD will focus on these areas for the next five years.

DAAD President Dr Joybrato Mukherjee in Bonn commented, “We are living in an era of profound change, characterised by shifts in the international order and accompanied by major global challenges. This state of change is challenging us: we need to think in a science-based and transnational way in order to secure the standing of Germany and its universities in the global academic system. At the same time, we want and need to work with as many international partners as possible to find evidence-based solutions to the pressing challenges facing our planet."

Germany Focuses On Attracting Foreign Students

To achieve, these four priorities, the country will be focusing on attracting international talent to strengthen the country as a location for innovation. By this period DAAD intends to expand the networking of German universities with international innovation drivers and to increase the visibility of these universities in the world.

DAAD comprises German universities and their student organisations.

During the changing geopolitical conditions, DAAD recommends region-specific advice for German universities so that they can organize international cooperation. The country also seeks to strengthen DAAD's European identity beyond the EU Erasmus+ programme.

DAAD Is Optimistic About Strategy 2030 Future

DAAD’s President emphasized that “Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the coronavirus pandemic have shown how quickly the framework and conditions for foreign science policy can change. Our new strategy therefore offers orientation and flexibility to respond to such dynamics."

“One hundred years after our foundation, we still want to contribute to the personal development of open-minded people and successfully shape global change in line with our motto ‘change through exchange’,” said DAAD President Joybrato Mukherjee.
