Deakin University, VicHealth To Launch New Research Centre

Study in Australia: Deakin University and VicHealth are going to spend around $4m in the VicHealth Commercial and Economic Determinants of Health Research Translation Centre over the next 5 years.

Deakin University, VicHealth To Launch New Research Centre

Deakin University and VicHealth have collaborated for the introduction of VicHealth Commercial and Economic Determinants of Health Research Translation Centre to explore interactions between commercial entities, economy and health outcomes.

VicHealth CEO Dr Sandro Demaio said, "Together with Deakin and changemakers from industry, business and policy fields, the centre's research will be used to create better health policies, healthier communities and a higher quality of life for Victorians."

Executive Dean of Deakin’s Faculty of Health, Deakin Distinguished Professor Rachel Huxley, said, "The focus on research translation makes the centre unique. Deakin is delighted to be partnering with VicHealth on this important new research centre. This centre is a blueprint for change. ​Unlike traditional research, it will involve community, business leaders and policy and communications experts to help identify problems and design research. The findings will be used to develop evidence-based solutions that drive policy change and inspire business models that support equity and the health of our planet and people."

VicHealth Commercial And Economic Determinants Of Health Research Translation Centre Details

The centre will perform the following functions:

  • It will hold an annual research translation forum to hear more from the field and share findings with stakeholders.
  • The centre will produce an annual landmark science report.
  • It will include researchers and experts from various sectors including community, business, and public sectors to co-design the translation plan and research agenda.

Deakin Appoints Professor Jessica Vanderlelie As New Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic

After an extensive search, Deakin University has appointed Professor Jessica Vanderlelie as Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic. She will commence this new role on March 31, 2025.








Deakin Vice-Chancellor Professor Iain Martin said, “Professor Vanderlelie is a passionate advocate for equity and inclusive practice in higher education and is known for her strong commitment to collaboration and student partnership. Professor Vanderlelie will ensure Deakin continues to inspire our students to reach their potential and achieve their goals. I look forward to Professor Vanderlelie’s contribution to the Academic Portfolio and as a member of the University Executive.
