There is one more tragic death of an Indian student reported in the USA. Telangana government has asked MEA to bring back the body of Guntipalli Sowmya who was hit by a car in Florida and reportedly died on the spot.

An Indian student from Telangana's Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district was killed in a road accident in Florida, US. Guntipalli Sowmya, a 25-year-old woman from Telangana reportedly died on the spot after she was hit by a speeding car while crossing the road on Sunday night.

As per the India Today report, she was returning to her accommodation after buying groceries when the accident occurred. She went to the US two years ago to pursue higher studies and after completing her master's degree she was looking for a job.

Sowmya's family details

Sowmya was originally from Yadagaripalle village, Telangana. Her father Koteshwara Rao and mother Balamani were devastated by the news of her untimely death.

Her father is a retired CRPF jawan who currently operates a general store in Telangana. He struggled a lot to send her abroad and arrange money for her studies. He said that his daughter recently celebrated her 25th birthday on May 11. "I even sent clothes for her," he said.








Family urges govt to bring body back to Telangana

The family of the deceased student has appealed to the government for assistance in bringing her body back to Telangana.

The Chief Secretary of Telangana has written a letter to the Embassy of India in Washington and MEA and sought help to assist the family and send the mortal remains of Sowmya back to her native place in India.







As per the TOI report, the General Administration (NRI) Department provided the MEA and Embassy, with the contact number of a social worker in the US and also the telephone number of Koteshwar Rao to coordinate with them in completing the formalities with the local authorities and the university to facilitate sending the body to her home.

This year, many young Indian students met with a similar tragic fate in America. Many deaths were reported including Abhijeeth Paruchuru, 20, who was found dead in a car in Freetown on March 8. An Indian student was found dead in Ohio after being missing for a few weeks. Venkataramana Pittala, also from Telangana died in was killed in a jet ski collision in March.
