Study in US: The University of California, Los Angeles Executive Vice Chancellor And Provost was honored at a Black History Month ceremony at Los Angeles City Hall.

Darnell Hunt, University of California, Los Angeles Executive Vice Chancellor And Provost was recognized for his pioneering work as a bridge builder, academic leader and champion of media diversity. He was honoured at the Black History Month ceremony at Los Angeles City Hall with the Hall of Fame Award.

While commenting on his appointment, Our Authors Study Club stated, “Darnell Hunt embodies the rare combination of groundbreaking scholar, visionary administrator, and transformative leader in both academia and media research. Hunt has consistently pioneered efforts to advance diversity, equity, and social justice across multiple spheres of influence.”

At UCLA, he is a longtime professor and administrator and recently served as the interim Chancellor of UCLA. He has written multiple books on race, culture, and media.

National Academy of Sciences Honors UCLA Professor

National Academy of Sciences awarded Michael Jung, the distinguished professor of chemistry at UCLA with the 2025 National Academy of Sciences Award for Chemistry. His research work especially focuses on prostate cancer. His design and development of the drugs enzalutamide and apalutamide have helped in extending the lives of scores of people around the world, says the university.

This award will be presented to Michael Jung at the National Academy of Sciences’ 162nd annual meeting on April 27.

"Throughout his career, Jung, the Walter and Shirley Wang Professor of Medicinal Drug Discovery, has created over 25 patents, published more than 250 articles and given over 470 lectures on his research. His expertise has led to appointments on the scientific advisory boards of pharmaceutical firms, and he performs consulting work for numerous biotechnology and medicine laboratories," says the university statement.








UCLA Study On L.A. wildfires

The new study calls for improved multilingual disaster communications during a disaster like LA wildfires.

Paul Ong, research professor and director of the UCLA Center for Neighborhood Knowledge said, “Knowing the language needs of Asian Americans ensures that they have access to life-saving information and that any efforts foster an inclusive disaster response."







Melany De La Cruz-Viesca, deputy director of the UCLA Asian American Studies Center said, “Language accessibility for older generations is especially important. Often disaster recovery program descriptions rely on jargon, while the services can be too complicated to understand and use. This can make these groups also susceptible to scams.”
