University of Guelph Appoints New Provost and Vice-President of Academic

Dr. Bill Rosehart will step into the role of new provost on August 1, 2024, after the present provost, Dr. Gwen Chapman, retires on July 31. Currently, Rosehart is the dean of University of Calgary.

University of Guelph Appoints New Provost and Vice-President of Academic

Study in Canada: The University of Guelph announced the appointment Dr. Bill Rosehart as the new provost and vice-president (academic). He will join from the University of Calgary where currently he is serving as the dean.

While responding to the announcement, Rosehart said, “I am enthusiastic about being appointed to the role as provost and being able to leverage my passion for innovation and the transformative role universities play locally and internationally,” says Rosehart. “I’m confident that together, we can navigate the challenges facing U of G and turn them into opportunities for innovation and growth.”

Dr. Charlotte Yates, president and vice-chancellor and chair of the search committee commented, “We are excited to welcome Dr. Rosehart to U of G and to the role of provost. He demonstrates an impressive track record of improving the student experience and of supporting faculty and staff success as an engaged leader, clearly guided by values of indigenization, equity, diversity and inclusion.”

Rosehart to start his work as Provost and Vice President (Academic) of the University of Guelph on August 1, 2024, when the current provost retires. Moreover, Graham Holloway will no longer serve as interim dean and Drs. Mazyar Fallah to no longer serve as interim provost, according to the official announcement.








About Bill Rosehart

He joined as a professor at the University of Calgary in 2001. He served in various significant leadership positions including associate head (undergraduate) of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, deputy provost, environment minor within the Interdisciplinary Centre for Environmental Engineering, inaugural associate director of the energy and dean of the Schulich School of Engineering.







As a dean, he contributed instrumentally in establishing new programs in Engineering and in expanding research funding. He has over 100 scholarly articles to his credit. Rosehart is a renowned researcher in electrical engineering.

He is a founding member of the Canadian Engineering Education Association (CEEA) and has been a passionate advocate for engineering research and education. He supervised or co-supervised 20 graduate students in his current role.
