University of Kentucky, KCTCS partner to enhance opportunities for Kentucky community college students
Study in US: The strategic collaboration is to improve educational outcomes and support the academic and career success of students across Kentucky.
The University of Kentucky and the Kentucky Community & Technical College System (KCTCS) campus leaders have announced a new partnership to offer a seamless transfer experience for Kentucky community college students seeking to earn a bachelor's degree in the UK.
University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto said, “Today’s pathway agreement between the UK and KCTCS is a critical step toward building a more qualified workforce that can meet our Commonwealth’s needs. This important partnership broadens access to higher education for all Kentuckians, especially those who might not have considered pursuing a bachelor’s degree. By working together, we can achieve more for our state and fulfil our promise to graduate more students and strengthen our communities.”
“Broadening access to four-year degrees will prepare more of our students for employment and career success. Creating seamless transfer pathways with partners like the University of Kentucky ensures that KCTCS is doing its part to improve the employability and quality of life of the citizens of the Commonwealth and to bolster the state’s workforce," said KCTCS President Ryan Quarles.
UK, KCTCS Partnership Details
Under the agreement, the students in KCTCS’s two-year degree programs will have clear and efficient pathways to the UK’s four-year degree programs reducing the time and cost to degree completion and maximizing credit transfer. The agreement was inked on the UK’s campus, attended by officials from both institutions.
Kentucky Community & Technical College System comprises 16 colleges with more than 70 campuses strategically located across the Commonwealth where students can earn certificates, diplomas and associate degrees. The new agreement will ensure that the students of KCTCS schools will have support services, resources and access to transfer to a four-year program in the UK.
The following are the highlights of the partnership:
- The affordability increases due to waiving off of the UK application fee for KCTCS students through the Transfer Tuesday program.
- Refining and establishing new transfer pathways in the UK to maximize accepted credit hours, and course equivalencies, detailing admission requirements, and other critical information for specific academic programs.
- Providing access to UK transfer advisors and inviting KCTCS students to special UK events to support their transfer process.
