University Of Southampton Plans To Enroll 10K Students At India Campus In 10 Years
The University Of Southampton is planning to enroll the creamy students at its Gurugram campus which is going to be functional from next year.
Study abroad: The University Of Southampton is planning to enrol 10,000 students at its Gurugram campus. They are targeting the creamy layer of students.
According to the university, every year outstanding students who do not get admission to the Indian top league institutes including IIMs, IITs, and ISB go either to study abroad or weaker colleges. The university intends to enrol such students at the Gurugram campus.
Oxford International Education is helping the university set up the campus and enrol the students. Lil Bremermann-Richard, group CEO of Oxford International Education said, “India has a huge young population who wants high-quality tertiary education. The Indian government of India has opened the doors for foreign quality universities. We see a great opportunity with University of Southampton which is ranked top in several global rankings,” as reported by Financial Express.
Immigration Restrictions Abroad Going To Favour University Of Southampton Admissions
"Recent restrictions in immigration rules in countries such as Canada, Australia and the UK are going to work in their favour. For numerous reasons, a lot of students don’t want to study abroad either because of their family commitments or because they don’t want to leave the country. Also, Canada, US, and Australia have become a lot more expensive because of the inflation. Our programmes are going to cost 40% lower as compared to studying abroad,” she added.
The University of Southampton in India is all set to start with two master's and four undergraduate programmes with a focus on engineering and management education.
“We are starting small. We will have about 200 students in the first year. We will progressively grow with an ambition to get close to enrolling 10,000 students annually in about 10 years. However, high-quality education is not about volume,” said Bremermann-Richard.
“We are prepared to bring academics from overseas. We are aware of the shortage of high-quality academics. We are opening the doors for the best. In the beginning, we will have more foreign academics, particularly from the UK. But we are hoping to reach a good balance in the future,” added Bremermann-Richard.

The clinic has around 150 students offering free legal services to the community.
Dr Madhloom said, “It’s a huge achievement and we are really proud to be shortlisted in the LawWorks awards, especially as we only established the Legal Clinic this year. Our Clinic is unique in the breadth of work and projects we are involved in internationally. We provide face-to-face legal advice, but we are also involved in community engagement, and environmental law. It also provides invaluable experience for our students, giving them extra training and developing their confidence and employability.”
