Yale University announces 24th President - Maurie McInnis

With the announcement of the new President's name, Maurie McInnis became the first woman to be appointed permanently to the position. The university said that McInnis was the unanimous choice of the school’s Board of Trustees.

Yale University announced the appointment of Maurie McInnis as the 24th president of the university. She will succeed Peter Salovey who led the university for the past decade and now is retiring and taking a faculty position at the Ivy League school in New Haven, Connecticut.

Josh Bekenstein ’80, senior trustee and chair of the presidential search committee said that McInnis, now president of Stony Brook University, was the unanimous choice of the Yale Board of Trustees.

“A compelling leader, distinguished scholar, and devoted educator, she brings to the role a deep understanding of higher education and an unwavering commitment to our mission and academic priorities. Her experience and accomplishments over the past three decades have prepared her to lead Yale in the years ahead," Bekenstein wrote on behalf of the full board.

"The search for Yale’s 24th leader wasrobustand designedto cast a wide net and to gain different perspectives on the ideal qualities and qualifications of the next president,added Bekenstein.

He thanked the four faculty members who served on the search committee including Jacqueline Goldsby, Steven Berry, Daniel Colón-Ramos, and Anjelica Gonzalez — praising theirinsights and deep commitmentandpartnership and collegiality.He also thanked Yale’s faculty, staff, alumni and student advisory council for helping to make the search process so robust.”








About Maurie McInnis

She completed her BA in Art History in 1988 from the University of Virginia, and PhD in History of Art in 1996 from Yale University.

She arrived at the university as a graduate student 35 years ago.

Her top priority in her new role will be to reconnect with those she knows and with others.







“You make this university what it is. The community environment that brought me to Yale was created by those who came before us and has been sustained and enriched by all of us," she said.
