NOTE: Candidates interested in applying to undergraduate programmes at an Ontario university are required to apply through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC). OUAC 101 & 105 have been discontinued.

OUAC or Ontario Universities' Application Centre is a not-for-profit centralised application platform for students looking to get into universities based in Ontario. Every university creates its own admission decisions and OUAC provides the processing service for the application. Candidates fill out their application on the OUAC after which they are transferred to the respective university. Once an application has been received, an OUAC reference number is sent to the applicant which they can use while reaching out to the OUAC or Ontario universities.

OUAC is a division of the Council of Ontario Universities (COU) that facilitates the process of applying to Ontario universities. OUAC is not responsible for taking a decision about the admission of the candidate as that is the responsibility of the institutions.

Applying Through OUAC

Candidates can apply to as many universities as they want, however, they can apply to a maximum of 3 programs by a particular university or its affiliates. Also, universities have the right to limit the number of programs a candidate can apply to. Candidates can apply through OUAC, however, the deadline for a university is decided by the university itself. Deadlines for the applications are decided by the universities specifically. Candidates should adhere to the deadlines of the schools they are applying to.

Usually, universities reply to the candidates within 2-3 weeks, however, in case a candidate doesn't receive any communication from a university even after 2-3 weeks then they can contact the university directly and ask about the status of their application. You can refer to your OUAC Reference Number along with the supporting documents in all communication with the university.

OUAC 105: All you need to know FAQs

Q. Can I apply for part-time studies through the 105 application?

A. There are a few universities for which you can apply through the 105 application. Information regarding the same can be found on the respective university pages. In case details for the same are not provided on the official websites, you can reach out to the university directly and ask about the same.

Q. What are my chances of getting financial aid while applying through 105 application?

A. Applicants are suggested to directly reach out to the universities and ask about the available scholarships, bursaries, and other financial aid. Ontario does not have any centralised financial service for the same as every institution offers distinct levels of assistance.

Q. Is there any free medical coverage for overseas students in Ontario?

A. No, the Ontario Health Insurance Plan does not consider overseas applicants eligible for free medical coverage. Due to this universities in Ontario have a private plan which is mandatory and which offers equal coverage. You can find in-depth information about the same on the respective websites of these universities.

Q. Why do I need a study permit before coming to Canada for studying?

A. Students coming from an international location to study in Canada are required to get a study permit before the country admits them. So before applying for the same they should reach out to an immigration official at a Canadian embassy that is there in your nation. You will have to prove that you've obtained admission to a program in Canada.

Q. How do I respond to an admission offer by a university?

A. Once your application has been analysed by the universities, you would be intimated about the final decision directly. If you've been offered admission by a university you will also receive the steps to respond through your application.
