Such has been its advent that a lot of Top Universities of the World have opened up a Campus in Singapore to facilitate the Asian student population. No wonder a large number of Indian students and executives have started to look towards Singapore as a favourable study-abroad destination. And while the Universities in Singapore offer a cheaper option, the costs are still considerable. With a comparable cost of living, scholarships add to the many advantages of study in Singapore.

Singapore has both Public and Private Universities. Its largest two universities, Nanyang Technological University and National University of Singapore feature among the World's Top Universities across various rankings. While a lot of private universities have designated scholarship funds as well, the article talks about the most common scholarships for Singapore that are rather unique to the Singapore state universities for various levels of degrees as well as a few general scholarships famous with international students.

Lee Kong Chian Graduate Scholarships at National University of Singapore
  • Students applying for a Ph.D from National University of Singapore are eligible to apply for this scholarship
  • Applications are invited twice a year (in sync with admissions intakes of August and January)
  • Any Doctoral (PhD) programme at National University of Singapore.
  • Awarded for 1 year at a time and renewable after every year to a maximum of 4 years depending on the performance of the scholar

INSEAD-Syngenta MBA Scholarships for Developing Country Leaders
  • Students with excellent academic achievement, leadership potential, aptitude for business and financial management as well as a commitment to contribute to the development of the home country can apply for the scholarship once they have been shortlisted for the MBA program at INSEAD
  • Masters in Business Administration (MBA) at INSEAD (either France or Singapore Campus)
  • For the duration of the course (1 year)
2 scholarships per class amounting to €22,500 per year
Singapore International Graduate Award
  • International students with excellent graduate and post graduate record, interested in pursuing a Ph.D from select Singapore Universities can apply
  • The students can choose to do their research work mainly at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) or the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD).  
  • 240 scholarships per year are awarded to meritorious students
  • Ph.D programs in Science and Engineering

The award provides financial support for up to 4 years of PhD studies including full tuition fees, monthly stipend, settlement allowance, and airfare grant.

Science & Technology Undergraduate Scholarship from NUS
  • students from Asian countries (except Singapore) applying for a full time under-graduate degree program at NUS can apply for the scholarship
  • University looks at a consistently strong academic score, leadership potential, participation in co-curricular activities
  • All applications are automatically screened for the scholarship as well
  • Under-graduate degree courses in the field of Computers, Engineering or Science (excluding Pharmacy)
  • For the duration of the course
  • Tuition fees (after MOE Tuition Grant Subsidy) and compulsory fees
  • S$6,000 annual living allowance
  • S$200 one-time settling-in allowance upon enrolment
  • Annual accommodation allowance equivalent to the lowest double room rate for on-campus accommodation
  • Air tickets to and from Singapore at the beginning and end of the course respectively
Singapore Millenium Foundation Scholarships
  • Ph.D Students or post doctoral students who have gained admission in either NTU or NUS or any of the Singapore's Research Institutes
  • Masters students already studying in the above universities can also applyf or this scholarship
  • Ph.D in Environmental Science, Renewable Resources & Water, Engineering, Physical & Material Sciences as well as Life Sciences
  • 2-4 years depending on the research/course period
  • S$4,000 per month for up to 4 years for Ph.D candidates
  • S$6,000 per month for up to 2 years for Post Doctoral candidates

Apart from the above-mentioned scholarships, the other famous scholarship by an international university for its Singapore campus is the James Cook University Scholarship for both undergraduate and postgraduate applicants.

Step 6: Insert the programme details and paste the application material in the boxes provided.

  • Personal identification number
  • Application fee

Step 8: Read the declaration carefully.

Step 9: Press the ‘Continue’ button to complete the application.

Graduate Applicants

International applicants need to follow these steps to apply to a graduate programme at NUS:

Step 1: Sign up on the university’s application portal at inetapps.nus.edu.sg/gda2/Applicant.aspx/Account/SignUp.

Step 2: Click on ‘Create New Application’ and choose the following:

  • Programme type
  • Faculty
  • Programme
  • Department
  • Specialisation (area of study)
  • Source of finance
  • Specify in case of ‘other source of finance’

Step 3: Read the instructions from the faculty/department/school carefully.

Step 4: Fill up the information as stepping through the application process.

Step 5: The system will perform an application completeness check for the selected programme.

Step 6: Once the above steps are completed, fill up the declaration section.

Step 7: Click on the 'Submit' button in the declaration page to complete the submission.

Step 8: To make an online payment for the application/acceptance fee and view details of your application (e.g. application status and admission status), click ‘View Application/Make Payment/Submit Reply on Offer of Admission’ at the menu on the left.

Step 9: To make changes to basic programme information for an application, click ‘Edit’.

First of all, students need to pay a non-refundable application fee of S$21.40. After accepting the offer, international students need to pay S$5,000 as non-refundable fee. This deposit fee can be used to offset the first tuition fee payment.
