Scholarship Overview

  • The founding Vice Chancellor of Griffith University, Professor John Willett (1922 - 1993) is remembered by many people throughout Australia as an academic and organisation builder of insight, innovation and drive. In memory of Professor Willett's work in management education, particularly in Asia, a fund was established to provide a scholarship for students from selected countries in Asia within the Griffith Business School, formerly the Graduate School of Management
  • The John Willett International Scholarship will offer a 50% tuition fee waiver for a maximum period of two years for the selected recipient to complete their Master of Global Development at Griffith. This will provide an opportunity for the recipient to acquire knowledge and skills needed to promote global sustainable development
  • This Scholarship will normally be offered once every two years, from 2022

Eligibility

  • To be eligible applicants must:
    • Be a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand, from one of the following countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, People’s Republic of China, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand or Vietnam.
    • Have a minimum  GPA  in previous studies of 4.0 or above on a 7-point scale or equivalent.
    • Have applied to study the Master of Global Development at Griffith by the scholarship application closing date. Applicants must be a new commencing student in this program.
    • Satisfy all academic and English language entry requirements for the chosen postgraduate coursework program.
    • Be a full-time student commencing in Trimester 1

  • Receiving the scholarship
    • To receive the scholarship you will need to accept both your program offer and the scholarship by the deadline. If you don’t accept the scholarship by the date specified in your Scholarship Offer, the scholarship will be withdrawn
    • Once you start studying at Griffith the scholarship will be applied prior to the census date of each trimester on meeting the ongoing enrolment requirements (see below). You must pay the remaining balance of fees, based on your enrolment, by census date
    • To maintain the scholarship deduction you must be enrolled full-time and making progress in your studies that meets your student visa requirements, and/or meet the requirements of your program of study, unless credit prevents full-time enrolment
  • Terms and conditions
    • Meeting Griffith University academic and English language entry requirements.
    • The Scholarship applies to postgraduate coursework tuition fees only.
    • The Scholarship covers 50% of postgraduate coursework tuition fees only for the duration of the program (full-time for a maximum of 2 years) on meeting the ongoing enrolment requirements (see below). Each deduction will be applied by the census date of each relevant trimester of the program.
    • Students must be International Fee Paying to qualify for the scholarship and each scholarship deduction. Any change from International Fee-Paying student status will result in the scholarship being withdrawn.
    • Not available for the online offering.
    • If you have been awarded a lower percent international scholarship (25% Academic Excellence) this scholarship will replace the lower scholarship.
    • Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted.The recipients may hold the Scholarship subject to:
  • Ongoing enrolment requirements
    • Students must maintain their enrolment according to their visa requirements.
    • Students must remain enrolled in the program for which the scholarship offer was made, which is stated on the Letter of Offer issued by Griffith International Admissions.
    • Should a student withdraw or cancel for any reason, the scholarship amount is non-refundable.
    • To maintain scholarship eligibility, students must pass all the requirements for each trimester of studies and successfully progress on to enrol in the next required trimester. A minimum cumulative GPA of 4.0 on a 7.0 point grading scale must be maintained to qualify for each tuition fee deduction in the following trimester of enrolment.
