Times Higher Education (THE) is a very prestigious body, which ranks universities around the globe on the basis of the following parameters: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook. World University Rankings 2023: One of the popular ranking organisations – Times Higher Education (THE) has recently published its World University Rankings for 2023. The rankings announced by Times Higher Education for 2023 include a total of 1,799 universities across 104 countries and regions. The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking methodology includes 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across four areas: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

  • The University of Oxford has topped the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for the seventh consecutive year.
  • The US is the most-represented country overall, with 177 institutions and the most represented in the top 200 (58) in the world university ranking list.
  • Mainland China now has the fourth-highest number of institutions in the top 200 in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2023
  • Five countries enter the ranking for the first time – all in Africa (Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe)

About Times Higher Education (THE) Ranking

Times Higher Education Rankings is an annual affair by the Times Higher Education based in London. Between 2004 and 2009, QS and THE jointly published the rankings, however, once their collaboration ended both adopted different methodologies to determine these rankings. THE started publishing these rankings based on the methodology developed with Thompson Reuters in 2010.

Times Higher Education rankings 2023 involve scrutinising research universities on five parameters namely Teaching, Citations, Research, International Outlook, and Industry Income. These are further divided into 13 carefully crafted performance indicators.
