Q:   What is the tuition fee for the BA Law (Jurisprudence) programme at Oxford?

A:

The tuition fee for the BA in Law (Jurisprudence) programme at the University of Oxford is approximately £9,535 (INR 10,30,579) per year for home students. The tuition fee for international students is £41,130 (INR 44,45,486). The predicted cost of living in Oxford for the 2025–2026 academic year is between £1,425 (INR 1,54,019) and £2,035 (INR 2,19,950) per month.

Q:   What is the duration of the BA in Jurisprudence programme at Oxford?

A:

The duration of the BA in Jurisprudence programme at the University of Oxford is three years. It is an undergraduate law degree, equivalent to LLB. It is also a 'qualifying law degree' for the purpose of practice as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales.

Q:   Are there any specific entrance tests required for the BA Law (Jurisprudence) programme at Oxford University?

A:

All applicants are required to take the Law National Admissions Test (LNAT) as part of their application. The LNAT consists of two sections: a multiple-choice section with 42 questions based on passages of text and an essay section where candidates write a short essay. The test is not desgined to test Law or any other subject but to assess the aptitude for studying law. Candidates are charged a fee of £75 to take the test in the UK or EU. If you are taking the test in a centre outside the UK or EU there is a fee of £120.

Q:   Which programme has higher admission selectivity and is more challenging to complete: the BA in Jurisprudence or the BCL at Oxford?

A:

Both BA in Jurisprudence and BCL are highly regarded courses but they differ in selectivity. Despite its name the BCL (Bachelor of Common Law) is a one year post graduate course for those who did really well in their law degree. The BA is a three year undergraduate course for school leavers.

BA in Jurisprudence: It is an undergraduate programme where admissions are based on academic performance, personal statements, and performance in the LNAT. It is designed for students who are at the beginning of their legal education.

BCL: This programme accepts students who have already completed a law degree, and admissions require a first-class degree or equivalent from a reputable university.

Although both programs are highly demanding, BCL is likely to be both more selective in terms of prior qualifications required and harder to complete due to its rigorous academic demands.
