Eastern Michigan University Placement overview

Recognised as one of the best in the USA for the 18th consecutive year by The Princeton Review, Eastern Michigan University’s College of Business’s specialized MBA program in International Business has been featured among the best in the nation in terms of global significance. In 2021, out of all the business school students surveyed for graduate employment, 83% stated that they obtained new employment or continued with the existing job with their current employer at the time of graduation.

Most of the students who had passed out had a job in a domain related to their respective degrees. Also, 89% of those with a new job shared that they had employment before or within three months after passing out of college. The average salary of business school graduates was $52,100. 84% of the students stayed back in Michigan after graduating.

The total number of students pursuing an undergraduate major was 1,514 and a total of 491 students were studying a minor subject. 428 students were pursuing a graduate degree at Eastern Michigan University (EMU). More statistics related to the 2021 batch are given below for a better understanding of the population distribution.

  • 36% of the undergraduate students and 25% of the graduate students come under the ‘minority’ category.
  • 4% of the undergraduate students and 10% of the graduate students had come from abroad.
  • 45% of the undergraduate student population was females and 55% were males.
  • 54% of the undergraduate student population was females and 46% were males.
  • The total number of faculty members was 67 (international: 30%, doctor/terminal degrees: 94%, courses taught by full-time faculty: 83%).

After passing out, most (84%) of the EMU business school undergraduate degree holders stayed back in the State of Michigan. These freshly graduated lot obtained employment in different industries in distinct services such as that of construction and transportation, business professional services, and much more. 16% of the graduates were those who found employment outside Michigan such as in New Jersey, Maryland, Texas, Ohio, California, Washington, Illinois, and Pennsylvania.

The industry which witnessed the highest EMU graduate placement was Business/Professional, with 23% of the graduates from Eastern Michigan University getting placed in it. This was followed by Construction and Transportation, with 11% and 8% of the business school graduates obtaining a placement. The industries which had the lowest graduate placement rate of 1% were Utilities, Insurance, Electrical Equipment, and Paper and Allied Products.

EMU Average Salary by Job 2021

Overall, the average salary for the College of Business was recorded at $52,100. The job which led to the highest graduate average salary was that of Computer Information Systems, with graduates obtaining a compensation of $65,000. This was followed by Accounting & Finance and Marketing, with the graduates obtaining average salaries of $54,200 and $49,700. Management yielded the lowest average amount of 46,900 for business school students.

EMU MBA Employment Profile 2021

85% of the College of Business graduates with an MBA degree obtained jobs in the field related to their degrees, whereas 15% got a job in other fields. It was stated by 92% of the graduates that they had obtained a new job or continued the one which they already had with their existing employer once they graduated. 75% of those who had a new job got the same before or within three months of passing out with an MBA degree.

EMU MBA Average Salary by Major 2021

For all the MBA graduates at Eastern Michigan University’s business school, the average salary recorded was $69,000.

The major which yielded the highest average salary for the MBA graduates at EMU was MBA/NPMG, with the average salary being $95,000. This was followed by MBA/Finance and MBA Management, with the average compensation being $82,500 and $75,000. The fourth and fifth place was obtained by MBA and MBA/Unknown, with graduates being offered the average amounts of $65,000 and $63,000. The lowest average salary was obtained by graduates with MBA/SCMG and MBA/MKGT, with the amounts being $55,000 each.

This was followed by Business Professional and Computer and Electronic Products, with the graduate employment rate standing at 10% each. Other industries in which these graduates got jobs were Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing and Hunting, Arts and Entertainment and Education, Banking, Educational Services, Finance and Securities, Hospitality/Restaurant, Insurance, Oil+Gas, Pharmaceutical, Utilities.

EMU Career Development Support

With the help of EMU’s Advising and Career Development Centre (UACDC), students can figure out how to select the correct academic and professional routes related to their interests, goals, and likings. UACDC provides you with in-depth details regarding registering for coursework, available employment opportunities, internships, co-ops, and much more. From Monday to Friday, the centre offers limited in-person services from 8 am to 5 pm. Students can virtually meet the counsellors and take their suggestions and recommendations regarding the career they wish to pursue.

Remote appointments via the web or phone can also be booked. EMU students can also visit the Handshake platform and explore various student employment options, work-study jobs, part-time and full-time work openings, career fests, workshops, etc.

Tips: I got GA which sponsors my tuition fee during my course. College is great for people who want to get a degree within budget. Will find many students from different countries. Faculty members are supportive of each and every student. Will easily find on-campus jobs to support daily expenses.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Faculty members are supportive to all and each student. They understand the difficult situations of every student and make arrangements accordingly. They are available during most of the business hours to help academically. They will help students to shape their career.
Dislikes (Public transportation): There is selective public transport available for nearby places. It is enough to get groceries and explore nearby places. But to explore nearby places, you have to get cabs or buses which are expensive for a student. You can easily track bus routes on Internet.

Best university and also tough when it comes to assignments
Tips: Students will learn new things, and easy to get part-time jobs. The faculty here are very friendly but assignments are very tough. You need to focus more on academics and the best thing here is that there are less Indians in the class and more Americans. This way you can interact with them and learn their accent easily.
Likes (Part time work): Our college has many part-time job options. Every student who studies in the college gets a part-time job because there are very less Indians who join this university. And most Americans won't do part-time work in our university. Also, our university provides graduate assistantship opportunities.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): My college does not get many companies. It totally depends on our hard work to be placed in the companies. Also, the area where I stay doesn't have many job opportunities, sometimes we get job opportunities only by doing research about the type of programs and the companies, with our hard work and after doing internships.
