A Catholic institution committed to healthcare, Mercy College of Ohio was founded with the objective of educating and inspiring students to serve and lead in the global community. The Sisters of Mercy established the institution as the Mercy School of Nursing in the year 1918. Later, it came to be known as Mercy College of Northwest Ohio, and finally, in 2011, it changed its name to Mercy College of Ohio. The institute has accreditations with the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Mercy College of Ohio has two campuses, one in Toledo and the other in Youngstown. The Toledo campus is located close to some of the educational, recreational and social attractions in Ohio, while the Youngstown campus is conveniently located at St. Elizabeth's Youngstown Hospital. The college offers various associate and bachelor's degree programs, along with graduate and certificate programs at Toledo and Youngstown campuses. Students pursuing a degree in Associate of Applied Sciences can specialize in Health Information Technology, Health Sciences, Nursing (Day/Evening/Weekend), and Radiologic Technology. Courses offered under a bachelor's degree include B.Sc. in Biology, BSN Nursing Pre-licensure, B.Sc. in Healthcare Administration, B.Sc. in Medical Imaging, and BSN-RN.

Graduate programs offered at Mercy College of Ohio include the Master of Health Administration, Master of Physician Assistant Studies, Master of Science in Nursing, and Post-Masters Certificate in Nursing Leadership and Nursing Education. Besides, students can pursue certificate programs in Computed Tomography, Community Healthcare Worker, Emergency Medical Technician, Imaging Quality & Safety, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Medical Coding, and Ophthalmic Assistant.

The Mercy Alumni Association, which was founded in the year 1923, presently serves over 6,000 graduates from the Mercy College of Ohio, Mercy School of Nursing, and Mercy College of Northwest Ohio.
