The history of SUNY Polytechnic Institute goes back to 1966. The institute is located in Marcy, New York, just outside the City of Utica. It is also a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III and the Empire 8 Athletic Conference. The institute is accredited by the Board of Regents of the State of the New York and a few other bodies. Also, the institute’s registered programs are registered by the State Education Department. There are 4 colleges of the SUNY Poly; Arts & Sciences, Engineering, Business, and Health Sciences. The total student enrollment at this institute is approximately 3,000. SUNY Polytechnic Institute History
The roots of SUNY Poly date back to 1966, when Upper Division College at Herkimer / Rome / Utica was founded. It began offering graduate programs to students then. In the year 1971, the college began operating in a former mill building in West Utica. In 1977, the institute adopted a new name, the State University of New York College of Technology at Utica-Rome. In 1981, the construction began on a new campus in Marcy.
In 2014, SUNY Polytechnic Institute was officially formed. In 2022, a decision to transfer the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering to the University at Albany was taken. In 2023, this transition was officially announced.
