Any student that meets the following requirements can potentially be admitted to the M.S. program subject to review by the Chemistry Graduate Committee and the needs of the department:-
- An ACS-certified B.S. degree in Chemistry, or it's equivalent
- A grade point average of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 scale. A student with a GPA of 2.25 may be admitted to the program with provisional standing
- Students with a non-ACS-certified degree or equivalent background can be admitted, subject to review by the Chemistry Graduate Committee, but may be required to enroll in specific graduate courses to strengthen their background in particular areas of chemistry
- The normal background equivalent to ACS certification includes:
- One year each of general and organic chemistry
- Two semesters of physical chemistry (one-semester survey) or its equivalent may count as one of these semesters.
- The second semester of physical chemistry may be taken as graduate credit by enrolling in Special Topics “Quantum Chemistry”
- One semester each of quantitative analysis, inorganic and instrumental analysis
- One semester of calculus (required for physical chemistry)

Affordable, comfortable and happiest
Tips: There will be a chance of TA/RA if you apply early. If there is no chance in the first semester. You can still get it for the rest of the course if you have good standing. The university ambience is good and it barely snows once or twice a year. You can roam on roads at any time even at night.
Likes (Student Life): The cost of living is very cheap in the area. You can get individual bedroom for a low price. And the area is very safe. You can walk on roads at midnight as well. And the campus is within walkable distance from housing. If you get RA/TA your tuition will be reimbursed.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There is only 2 restaurants nearby which are ok. If you drive 1 hr there will be a lot of options. Usually, students drive twice a week to bring groceries which are 1 hr drive from Cookeville. And there are a lot of asian, Mexican cuisines as well in the area.
