Texas College: Courses, Admission, Cost

Founded in 1894, Texas College offers 12 bachelor's degree programmes which have been diversified into four divisions, including business and social sciences, general studies and humanities. Within these courses, the subjects offered under majors are biology, business administration, computer science, criminal justice, English, general studies, interdisciplinary studies, mathematics, music, religion, social work and sociology. The college offers programmes such as Early Childhood Education and General Studies which are two associate degrees specialising in art.

The college offers an Alternative Certification Teacher Education Programme for candidates who have already graduated. The candidates who want to boost their career growth and are looking for a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration can opt for the SUCCESS programme offered by the college. Situated in Tyler, Texas, the campus of the college comprises student centre, dining hall, W.L. Moody Business/Science Building, Gus F. Taylor Gymnasium, Music Hall, Band Hall, Martie H. Fair Hall, D.R. Glass Library, Fitness Centre, Athletic Complex, Weight Room, Rose Hall and Hartley Hall. The college also organises intercollegiate competitions in sports such as Baseball, Basketball, Football, Soccer, Softball, Track and Field and Volleyball.

Texas College is also popular for its notable alumni. 1956 batch student Irma P. Hall has done poetry and has been a stage and film actress. She was awarded the NAACP Image Award under the category of the Best Supporting Actress for her character in Soul Food. She bagged Prix du Jury Award in 2004 at the Cannes Film Festival for her character in The Ladykillers. In 2005, she was added into the Texas Hall of Fame. She is also the co-founder of the Dallas Minority Repertory Theatre. Another great person who belongs to the alumni of this college is Dr Jesse W. Jones. He was a professor of chemistry at Baylor University and also a member of the Texas House of Representatives from 1992 to 2006. Dr Mildred Fay Jefferson is also a part of the college's alumni who was the first black woman to graduate from Harvard Medical School. She was also the first woman to be awarded a graduate degree in surgery at Harvard Medical School and also the first woman to become a member of the Boston Surgical Society
