The Textile Design curriculum offers ample opportunity to students to create, experiment and innovate with materials. The programme builds upon the integration of creative forces of design with textile technology, and also keeps in mind the historical, social and cultural contexts in which the designers work today. Alongside there is also emphasis on learning specialised software in order to explore digital and non-traditional approach to design, fabric structures and surfaces. The students also get exposure to a craft environment by way of craft cluster initiative, which sensitizes them to traditional practices. The Textile Design students undertake Graduation Project in their final year which are sponsored by textile mills, export houses, home and apparel retail brands, designers, NGOs or are self sponsored. While Textile technology is a branch of engineering where technology is used for developing and creating several varieties of fabric, textiles and garments from yarn. It involves the study of fiber Science, and students learn how to create and test fibers from both natural and synthetic sources. Textile Engineering/ Technology is the study of textile production, processing and it's compatibility for the use of common man. It combines the principles of engineering with specific knowledge of textile equipment and processes. This field of engineering draws inputs from various other branches of engineering like chemical, instrumentation, computer, structural, electronic and mechanical engineering. Textile technology/Engineering deals with the application of scientific and engineering principles to the design and control of all aspects of fiber, textile and apparel processes, its products and machinery. These include natural and man-made materials, interaction of materials with machines, safety and health, energy conservation, and waste and pollution control.
