Hello Vasu,India can hardly boast of a vibrant aerospace industry. Hence, opportunities in core areas are very less. Even an alumni of IIT Bombay in this branch is today CEO of Infosys but after he changed stream! On the other hand sea cargo is increasing by the day and this in turn increases opportunities for deck hands multifold. Hence one can say without any hesitation that deck job in merchant Navy is better than aeronautical engineering branch.

Listen, it seems you are very much interested for marine engineering. You are eligible for maritime engineering with spectacles but you are not eligible for navy. I will give you an advice which I did, I had -1.25 power but I reduced that to -0.5 by eating Amla twice a day and do some eye exercises, you may become eligible for navy also if you have 1 year then.

If your reason for asking this is to know what stream you choose then my friend through science you can go with almost every profession. And if its only about the career perspective then it depends on what interests you have aeronautical engineering is more on the conceptual, analytical skills, you need to be extremely good in your performance to land up in a rather good college for such course. And on the other hand, I have a friend who landed up in the merchant navy and comparatively the expected level of intelligence and knowledge is low.

Since you have already completed your B.Tech in ME you can now directly apply for a job in the merchant navy. Candidates who have finished the basic course in merchant navy can get jobs very easily through various consultants and placement agencies. Merchant navy fleet consist of cargo ships, container ships, barge carrying ships, tankers, bulk carriers, refrigerators ships, passenger ships, as well as roll off/roll on ships. The possibility of finding employment in cargo ships is more as compared to the others. Regards.
