Hello Sunil,
Merchant Navy is a dream for many youngsters. It excites them. Idea of visiting different countries, fabulous salaries, etc. all play a part. In India too, use of water as means of transportation is going to increase. Hence, opportunities for employment are going to be great.On the other hand, aeronautical engineering has shown immense potential but my analysis says that opportunities are very limited. Opportunities are there in aviation but not in aeronautics. Hence, I would advise you to opt for merchant navy.

Only candidates with PCM are eligible for merchant navy.

Your friend should option for Physics, Chemistry, Maths in 11th standard. Apart from this, he needs to be physically fit and should have an eyesight of 6/6 without glasses.

You could give exams conducted by any particular school, like Anglo eastern.
Basic course after 12th is DNS-Diploma in nautical science.

Hello Sarfarz,
You need not take any marine engineering course for taking commission in Indian Navy. There are two methods. One is via NDA after 12th and other is via CDS exam of UPSC. You will find detailed information in Indian Navy's website "joinnausena".
