Founded in 1919, the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) is a public land-grant research university located in Los Angeles, California. UCLA History

University of California, Los Angeles is the second establishment of the ten-campus University of California system. UC Berkeley was the first. Initially, UCLA offered two-year long degree courses in the fields of letters and science. However, the university soon started offering third and fourth year courses. In 1925, the first batch of 300 students graduated from the university. In 1933, UCLA started offering master's courses and in 1936, doctoral degree education came into existence in the university.In 1958, the university was granted its now known name - University of California, Los Angeles.

In 1950s, the first open-heart surgery in the western US was carried out in the UCLA medical center. By the end of the 20th century, UCLA reached various milestones. Several faculty members of the university were awarded Noble prizes, and over 30 Oscars were awarded to the university's creative alumni members. Some other notable events were breakthroughs in treatments for cancer, brain aneurysms, and organ transplants.In 2019-20, the University of California, Los Angeles celebrated 100 years of existence. Currently, UCLA is home to around 47,000 students and 4,100 faculty members. It now possesses 227 campus buildings and classes are held in more than 85 facilities.
