Established in 1947, The University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW or UNC Wilmington) is a public research university based in Wilmington, North Carolina. It is part of the University of North Carolina System and is classified among ‘R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity’. The university is home to more than 18,000 students. UNCW has three campuses with the main campus in Wilmington, and other two campuses in Jacksonville, North Carolina, and the Center for Marine Science near Myrtle Grove.
UNCW offers 55 undergraduate degree programs, 35 master's degree programs, and four doctoral programs. UNCW comprises seven colleges namely, the College of Arts and Sciences, Cameron School of Business, College of Health and Human Services, Watson College of Education, Graduate School, Honors College, and University College. UNCW offers degrees in sciences, business, health, humanities, and professional courses. UNCW's recognised marine science program has a lot of interest among undergraduate and graduate students.
Apart from this, U.S. News & World Report ranked UNCW among the US's top public national universities for the last three years. UNCW's education program has moved up 25 places and the public affairs have moved up nine places on the US News & World Report's list of 2023 best graduate schools. Also, UNCW's Geology program also made to the list of top programs first time in its category.
The UNCW's athletic teams are NCAA's Division I members fielding 18 teams having different men and women teams for baseball, basketball, golf, soccer, cross country, swimming, and others.
Students have the option to stay on campus as the university has residence halls and on-campus apartment complexes.
