University of Wisconsin Madison History
University of Wisconsin Madison was approved by Wisconsin's first governor through the Incorporation Act of July 26 in 1848 and later in 1951, the North Hall was opened. The Wisconsin Alumni Association was founded in 1861 and the first set of women students were admitted to the university in 1863. Bachelor Degrees were offered to women in 1869 and the university had established the country's first magnectic observatory in 1876.
The Regents had established the UW Madison Graduate School in 1904 and the Wisconsin Union was later founded in 1907. The UW Madison Business School, School of Nursing, and the School of Education was established between the year 1924 and 1930.
