Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai is all set to organise the first edition of Justice ML Pendse National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition 2023. The last date to fill out the application is December 5, 2022.

Due to an observable lack of legal academia dedicated to Environmental Law in India, the Justice M. L. Pendse Chair in Environmental Law aims to foster legal environmental education by promoting and undertaking research activities exclusively in the field, in collaboration with national and international stakeholders, as reported by Live Law.

Eligibility for participation

The following are the eligibility requirements:

  • All students enrolled bona fide in undergraduate law courses i.e., three years/five years from any college or university are eligible to participate.
  • Each college/university/institution shall be allowed to register only one team in the competition.

The registration fee for the teams is INR 2000 for the memo qualifier round, and post-team selection would be INR 9000. The registration fee will be non-refundable and paid by all teams, irrespective of their participation in the oral rounds.

Prizes for the moot court competition

The winning team will get INR 1,00,000, the runners-up will get INR 60,000, the best speaker will get INR 30,000, the best researcher will be awarded INR 30,000 and the best memorial - applicant and the best memorial will get INR 20,000 each.

A team can have a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3 members, if there are 2 members, they both will be speakers and any one of the two may appear for the researcher’s test. If there are three members team, two members shall be speakers and one will be a researcher.
