Q:   Is it hard to get into Utrecht University?

A: 

Utrecht University is one of the most prestigious universities in the Netherland and Europe. The university has produced 12 Nobel laureates. It is one of the universities that do not officially publish data on the acceptance rate. However, as per EduRank, Utrecht University acceptance rate is 14%. With such a low acceptance rate, the university is very selective in admissions and it is very hard to get into the university. Also, the data on the acceptance rate is taken from an unofficial source, so, it is subject to vary.

Undergraduate requirements:

  • Indian students from (CBSE) must have an average of 80% in at least 5 general/academic subjects

  •  Indian Students must have a CISCE average of 80% in at least 5 general/academic subjects 

  •  Students can submit a Senior Secondary Certificate (NIOS): an average of 80% in at least 5 general/academic subjects 

Note: Exempt from English proficiency if the Diploma is obtained at CBSE, CISCE, NIOS AND fully English-taught. 

  • An English proficiency test (IELTS, TOEFL, or CAE) is required for students who have not been taught fully in English. Visit our website for the minimum requirements.

  • Applicants must be sure that they have a valid identification of their nationality.

  • A copy of the passport and ID card must correspond with the nationalities that the student will fill out.

  • Applicants must submit a statement of motivation on the below topics:

  1. What would you most like to study at University College Utrecht and how do you see those subjects combining? What led you to these interests?

  2. How would the Liberal Arts and Sciences programme at University College Utrecht contribute to your academic and personal ambitions in ways that other programmes would not?

(Students must note that there is a 300-500 word limit in response to all questions and not per question. 

  • Students must be required to have one academic reference written in English from their faculty. 

Postgraduate requirements:

  • LOR: The university asks for a LOR, and with particular exceptions, who should write those letters. 

  • Statement of purpose ( an SOP): An SOP is essential for the application process for Utrecht. It helps the applicant to convey their talents, academic excellence accomplishments and personal background of applicants. 

  • Transcripts and degrees: the applicant must provide the university with transcripts of their academics with degree certificates. 

  • English Language Proficiency Exams: International students must submit English Language proficiency.  

  • Resume/CV:  The university also might ask you for a CV or a resume depending on the course you choose for professional experience.

Q:   What are NL scholarships of Utrecht University?

The NL Scholarship is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences. Only non-EU/EEA students are eligible for this scholarship. Under this scholarship, for international students, the awarded scholarship amounts are EUR 5,000 (INR 4,47,540), EUR 10,000 (INR 8,95,080) and EUR 15,000 (INR 13,42,620).
