All about Law School Admission Test (LSAT)

LSAT full form is Law School Admission Test, which is a mandatory test to get admission to all American Bar Association (ABA) approved law schools, most law schools in Canada, and some non-ABA-Approved law schools. Law School Admission Test, commonly known as LSAT, is administered by the Law School Admission Council (LSAC). LSAC is a nonprofit corporation whose aim is to provide the best quality admission-related services for legal education institutions and their applicants throughout the world. LSAT is a half-day, standardized test.
Candidates who want to pursue the Law programme from the United States, Canada, and Australia will have to clear the LSAT test. LSAT is conducted four times each year at designated testing centres throughout the world. In the US, Canada, the Caribbean, and some other countries, the LSAT is conducted on a Saturday, except in June, when it is generally conducted on a Monday. Many law schools prefer that the LSAT should be taken by December for admission to the following fall. However, the best time to conduct the test is in June or September.

Through this test, examiners measure the reading and verbal reasoning skills of the applicants. These skills are important for candidates to be successful in Law schools. Some schools place greater weight than others on the LSAT and most law schools evaluate the candidate's full range of credentials.

LSAT Test Pattern

• LSAT is skill-based, multiple-choice 101-question test administered by Law School Admission Council (LSAC).
• The LSAT test is conducted for 4 hours and 25 minutes. The test is conducted 4 times every year at several locations throughout the world.
• Law School Admission Test (LSAT) consists of five multiple-choice sections of 35 minutes each and one 35-minute essay.
• Out of five multiple-choice sections, four contribute to the score of the test taker.

LSAT consists of three sections

• Logical Reasoning Section
• Analytical Reasoning Section
• Reading Comprehension Section

Logical Reasoning

• The logical reasoning section evaluates the candidate's ability to understand, analyze, criticize and complete a variety of arguments.

Analytical Reasoning Section

• Analytical reasoning section evaluates the candidate's ability to understand a lot of relationships and to draw logical conclusions about that structure.

Reading Comprehension Section

• The reading comprehension section measures one's ability to understand complex materials.

Score Format of LSAT

• LSAT final score is based on the number of correctly answered questions.
• There is no negative marking for the incorrect answers.
• The scores of LSAT are converted into a scale that ranges from 120-180 with an average score of 150. It is done through statistical equating. Minor differences in difficulty between the test forms are adjusted by this method.
• Candidates will receive the percentile ranking along with LSAT score.

• The Law School Admission Council makes various study materials available in order to help the students prepare for LSAT.
• The purpose of these materials is to make the candidates familiar with the test pattern and other important issues.

How to Apply for LSAT

There are three ways to register for LSAT

• Candidates can apply through online registration.
• Telephone registration is also available.
• Candidates can register through Mail.

Once you have registered for a test during the regular registration period, you may not withdraw or cancel your registration and re-register for that same test during the late registration period.
