History
Ghent University was founded in 1816 by King William I and was inaugurated on October 9, 1817. Primarily, Ghent University started with just 190 students enrolled in the university and 4 faculties namely, Arts, Law, Medicine, and Science. The university witnessed disastrous consequences during the two political separations from the Netherlands in 1830. In 1882 Ghent University gained access to female students to due the relaxed entry requirements. Over the years the university continued to grow and establish its campuses in different locations.
