Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity - Batch of 2027
4.2
Mixed opinions about the University but grateful for the experiences.
Tips: Honesty, Purdue's quality has severely gone down over the years and it does not make sense to come here without scholarships. From a networking and opportunities point of view, Purdue is an ideal place and it is very safe and student-friendly. But if you are getting a higher-ranked university, I suggest you go for that.

It is a great Engineering University with lots of resources and opportunities.
Tips: It is a top Engineering school with a lot of resources available for everything. It has fast flexibility in coursework and a good policy for internships, so look out for internship opportunities. There are funding opportunities, but they might be restricted in some departments. It is a good college town where everything is built for and around Purdue.

Purdue Masters - Worth the money and your time
Tips: It’s going to be very competitive. Students should be prepared for that. Not much cultural shift as there are a lot of Indians here. The syllabus is advanced, we can learn a lot here. A lot of companies hire exclusively from Purdue, but currently, the job market is down for everybody.

Really good public university, you get to learn a lot!
Tips: Purdue provides fee waiver for research assistant and teaching assistant position in MSCS. This is a really good opportunity for graduate and Ph.D. students. All the seems that we work as a TA/RA fee would be waived. I feel being a TA by teaching and assisting undergrad students during labs and office hours was a great experience.

A place to grow in your career.
Tips: If you are here, make sure you enjoy as much as you can. You will need funding for this course so start applying for loans etc as soon as possible, because by the time you come to campus, it might be too late. You can also find some on campus jobs as part-time work so do not restrict yourself, there is nothing wrong in doing part-time job.

A great place to study and propel your career
Tips: Though best known for its engineering programs, Purdue University offers a wide range of other courses to choose from which are equally good. The faculty here is world class. People in Indiana are nice and overall it's a homely vibe. Winters do get really cold though.
Likes (Public transportation): Fairly well connected by the city's public bus transportation system. Their app is also nice which gives real-time update on the location and schedule of the buses. Purdue students can ride free by showing their university ID card. Uber and Lyft are also available.
Dislikes (Student Life): Purdue University is in West Lafayette which is a small student town in Northern Indiana. Being a small town, the options for students to hang out becomes limited to only a few good places. Being said that though the places which are here are not at all bad just that more options would have been nicer.

Purdue university offers great faculty for engineering.
Tips: The college and the town West Lafayette is quite student-friendly. You will have the time of your life here. Transportation is free completely for students and you keep getting freebies in college. The quality of education is unmatched. Professors are quite approachable. Surely value for money.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Student life is amazing here because of the tight-knit cohort. It is a small cohort, that is why everybody is connected and shares a good bond. There are several activities to do and sports to play. There are several events in college going on all the time.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Faculty are very knowledgeable. They teach very well and quality education is received. They have a good grip on courses and are experts in their field. There are many Indian professors in Business school, Krannert school of management. They are approachable.

Interesting and an insightful experience
Tips: It is important to be flexible in your approach before you commit to studying full time. You will have to be self reliant and equipped in terms of taking care of yourself while ensuring that you spend adequate time on campus as well. This will be helpful in being a part of the community.

Best cities to live in. The faculty help in networking.
Tips: For students moving here there will be a cultural shift for sure.
It is smart to get referrals for on-campus jobs, as they are limited. Try staying Bridgeport area, as it is affordable and safe. Chicago is one of the best cities in the US, you will get to a lot of networking events outside the university which can help you in many ways.

One of the most Amazing Experiences.
Tips: There's definitely a cultural shift. I personally loved the new country/city/university challenge and was up for all the tasks ahead. Find good friends/roommates who will guide you and help you in your transition. Don't hesitate to change your accommodation if not suitable for your academic preference. I didn't avail of any scholarships because I wasn't aware of any. There are different undergrad and graduate school scholarships available so do your research. I can say that I am somewhat satisfied with the course/university. Definitely would have liked a cheaper college but I suppose I did the best I could with the scores. Chicago is a beautiful city. The summers are short but pleasant, winters are long and the city is covered in snow for almost 3 months so definitely extreme weather conditions will take some time to get used to but it is undeniably beautiful. Some parts of the city are not safe and generally, you will be aware of those with research. Try to avoid those areas and don't wander alone at night. Everything will be great. Good luck to whoever reading this for your future.
Likes (Public transportation): Chicago has one of the best public transportation systems with frequent trains and buses even during night times. It is super affordable as semester passes are generally provided by the university as part of your tuition fees. Public transportation runs in all weather (even in heavy snow and rain).
Dislikes (Part time work): On campus part time jobs are available but very limited. Usually, you get them through connections. 100s apply but a chosen few are selected. Very much depends on the particular facility you are applying for. Personally, I applied but never got any. It is definitely manageable. Sometimes you will have to do weekend shifts or work late at night but the campus provides late-night drop offs. Pay is generally minimum wage in the state (usually $12/hr - $14/hr).

Many Indian students are present in the campus.
Tips: In college, maximum number of students in ITM and CS branches are Indian only.
So there was no cultural shift that I experienced. Initially, you may feel some changes and that's all.
But after 2-3 weeks it will be the same. One should just focus on GRE and SOPs.

US has its drawbacks too. Think carefully
Tips: Be prepared for a new life. College doesn’t matter. Personality matters. If you are smart you will get a job at Google and if not you will end up back in India wasting your money. So think carefully about the courses you are taking and the people you are hanging out with.

College is good, faculty are amazing and the audience is almost Indian students.
Tips: I did my research and read the course descriptions thoroughly. I was awarded a scholarship based on my GPA and extracurricular activities. At first, it was quite difficult, but I knew I had to do it and I chose a course that I wanted to pursue further. The university is always happening and there are many on-campus events, activities and workshops so do participate in it. I am very satisfied with the course, country and college.

Illinois Institute of technology has an academic oriented approach.
Tips: Before joining IIT, students should be prepared for a rigorous academic program, a smaller campus community, and life in Chicago with its opportunities and challenges, including harsh winters. Transitioning to IIT involves adapting to the American teaching style, independent living, and cultural differences. Scholarships, like the Residential Scholarship, often help with tuition but rarely cover living expenses. Overall, IIT is academically rewarding but must adjust to the cultural and lifestyle changes in the U.S.
