  • Graduate School Scholarships Programme (GSSP): The funding will take care of a PhD project at a structured graduate school at a German university. It includes a monthly payment of EUR 1,300, coverage of accidents, personal liability insurance, and health, travel lump sum, and an annual research allowance of EUR 460.

  • Combined Study and Practice Stays for Engineers from Developing Countries (KOSPIE) with Indian IITs: Students from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) can apply for this in order to complete their project work made mandatory under their master's thesis under the guidance of a German professor at one of the TU9 technical universities.

Q. Are Indian students eligible for DAAD?

Yes, Indian students are eligible for DAAD scholarships. However, keep in mind that not all the programmes may be applicable for the Indian candidates. In order to be eligible for a DAAD scholarship, you must be pursuing a bachelor's/master's degree in Germany and meet the language proficiency requirements.

For all the international students, including Indians, DAAD offers scholarships on the bachelor's, master's, PhD, and doctorate levels. It is also applicable for short courses, language courses, joint degree/double degree programmes, prep courses, and more.

Q. What are the benefits of DAAD?

A. Some of the major benefits of DAAD Germany scholarships are:

  • You do not have to pay back any amount as DAAD offers scholarships, not loans;
  • You also get a flat-rate travel allowance; and
  • On a case-by-case basis, you may also be eligible for health, accident and personal liability insurance.

Q. Does DAAD pay tuition fees?

A. Yes DAAD Germany covers your tuition fee. Some other components that are inlcuded in DAAD scholarships are study and research allowance, flat-rate travel allowance. With the help of DAAD, students also get access to health, accident and personal liability insurance in a few cases.

Q. What is the age limit for DAAD?

A. There is no fixed age limit for DAAD Germany scholarships. Hence, you can avail them at any age.

Q. Can I stay in Germany after a DAAD scholarship?

A. Yes you can stay in Germany after a DAAD scholarship. However, you must apply for residence permit for jobseekers. This is a valid for a period of 18 months, and you can hunt for qualified jobs during this time period.

Q. What is the minimum CGPA for DAAD?

A. Indian students must obtain a CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) of 8.5 or above in order to obtain a DAAD scholarship. Otherwise, you can also get a DAAD Germany scholarship if you have an aggregate percentage of 85% in all the semesters. Along with CGPA, you must also meet the ELP requirements listed below:

  • IELTS: 6.0
  • TOEFL iBT: 80
