Before booking your GMAT exam date, there are several points you should consider to ensure a smooth and successful test-taking experience. Here are some important factors to keep in mind:

  • Preparation Time: Assess your readiness for the GMAT exam and determine how much time you need to adequately prepare. Consider your familiarity with the test content and your target score. Give yourself enough time to study effectively and build your skills.
  • Test Center Availability: Check the availability of test centers in your desired location. It is advisable to book your slot well in advance to secure your preferred test center and date.
  • Scheduling Flexibility: Consider any personal or professional commitments that may affect your GMAT exam preparation. Choose a GMAT exam date that meets your personal and professional commitments.
  • Application Deadlines: Research the application deadlines of the programs you plan to apply to. Make sure you book your exam date early enough to have your scores ready for submission within the required timeframe. Moreover, keep time for preparation of MBA application documents such as a statement of purpose, letters of recommendation, etc.
  • Retake Policy: Familiarize yourself with the GMAT retake policy. Factor-in the time you might require to retake the GMAT.
  • Test Preparation: Consider your study plan and the resources you need to prepare effectively. Evaluate your study materials, practice tests, and any additional support you may require. Ensure you have enough time to study and practice before your chosen exam date. You may require anywhere between 3-6 months to prepare for the GMAT exam.
  • Personal Readiness: Take into account any personal factors that may affect your performance, such as health issues or other commitments. Choose a date when you feel mentally and physically prepared for the GMAT exam.

Booking your GMAT exam date is a crucial part of your preparation process, so keep that in mind. Consider these ideas carefully, then decide what will work best for your objectives and situation. Wishing you success as you study for the GMAT!

Q:   How will students know the right time to book a GMAT slot?

A:

Candidates should book the GMAT slot at least 3 to 5 months prior to the admission deadlines for their desired university. Moreover, it is better to book the GMAT slot at least 3-6 months prior to your desired test date. As you will get plenty of time to prepare for the exam. Consider the following points before GMAT slot booking:

  • Let us say that your University application deadline is 1st November.
  • Now consider 6 months’ time prior to 1st November, i.e. 1st May. Hence, from 1st May onwards you need to consider GMAT preparation + GMAT slot booking + application document preparation.
  • If you have time, then you can prepare for the GMAT beforehand only so that you have sufficient time to prepare your admission documents and choose a GMAT slot of your choice.

Make sure that you research all the factors such as the time required for GMAT exam preparation, document preparation, university deadlines, etc. It is crucial for students to take into account every aspect of their study-abroad application to avoid any last minute hassles.

Checking Into the GMAT Exam Centres in India

Know the Rules to Avoid GMAT Score Cancellation

Learn the GMAT exam testing rules agreement and understand test policies to avoid policy violations that may result in score cancellation. GMAC may cancel or withhold your GMAT score if it feels that:

  • A testing issue has happened according to the test administrator/proctor.
  • There are administrative errors.
  • There are payment or registration errors.
  • Test questions have been compromised.
  • There were disruptions at the GMAT test centre and these disruptions were out of your control.
  • You have violated the policies of the GMAT exam.
  • Your score is invalid for any other reason.

In case of such an event, a candidate may appeal to the GMAC within 30 days (GMAC may change the appeal window time) from the cancellation of his/her GMAT score. Hence, the candidates need to follow every rule and policy laid down by the GMAC for the GMAT exam. Make sure that you read and follow the instructions given by the GMAC.

GMAT Testing Accommodations

On the GMAT exam date, if a student feels that he/she is unable to take the GMAT exam under the standard situation, he/she may apply for the GMAT exam accommodations. Students need to note that they should not book their GMAT exam appointment until they receive approval for the GMAT testing accommodation. Students are eligible for the GMAT testing accommodations for the online and test centre GMAT exams, both.

Q:   How to apply for GMAT testing accommodations?

A:

The following points provide details of testing accommodations:

  • Create your profile on the official GMAT website. Do not register for the GMAT exam until you receive a final decision on your testing accommodation.
  • Read the GMAT handbook and the GMAT Supplement for Test Takers with Disabilities.
  • Collect the required documents for the following disabilities (as the case may be):
    • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
    • Learning and Cognitive Disabilities
    • Physical/Systemic Disabilities
    • Psychological Disabilities
    • Deaf/Hard of Hearing and Blind/Low Vision
  • Visit the 'Apply for Accommodations' option and submit your request by attaching the relevant documents. Once you submit the request, you will receive a confirmation email. Your request will also be available on your official GMAT account within 24 hours. GMAC may take around 16-20 business days to revert. Under certain circumstances, it might take longer as well.
  • With the help of GMAT testing accommodations, you may receive additional time, rest breaks, a reader to read, a recorder to record your answers, etc. depending on your request and situation.

If the testing accommodations were approved in the last 2 years and if the documents provided by a candidate still hold relevance, a student need not submit the documents again. He/she can just apply for the Accommodation Request Form.

Q:   If I have booked a slot at the GMAT test center, can I transfer the registration to the online version?

A:

If a candidate has booked a slot at the test center it cannot be rescheduled to a different mode for that attempt. Candidates need to book the GMAT online exam again to attempt the test online. When it comes to GMAT slot booking, we advise that candidates show caution. Before you decide your GMAT exam date, make sure to go through the different study abroad intakes, MBA or MIM admission deadlines, your current GMAT preparation level, time required to reach your desired GMAT score, time required to prepare your admission documents (SOP, LORs, Admission Essays, etc.), etc.

Q:   Do I need to renew my approval for the GMAT testing accommodations for every GMAT exam attempt?

A:

Those who have already booked the GMAT exam and have got the approval for GMAT testing accommodations need not apply for it again for their subsequent GMAT exams as the approval for accommodations is typically valid for two years. In case if your GMAT testing accommodation approval has expired, you need to visit the Testing Accommodation pages and apply for the accommodations. You must complete the form and mention that you had received an approval earlier. It is advised that the students attach their original decision letter as a part of their fresh request.

Q:   Is GMAT a computer adaptive test?

A:

GMAT is a computer-adaptive test, it adapts to the performance of the candidate while he is giving the test. The difficulty level of the questions changes based on whether the candidate is answering the questions right or wrong. If the candidate is answering the questions right, the level of the questions will rise, similarly, if the candidate is answering the questions wrong, the candidate will start getting easy questions. Also, as the next question is generated based on the performance in the current question, the candidate cannot visit the previous question. The candidate needs to answer a question about whether he is able to solve it or not in order to move ahead in the exam. If you get an easy question while taking the GMAT exam, you need not panic whether the previous question was correct or incorrect. Instead of wasting your time, you must focus only on solving the current question.
