Harvard applications drop by 5%; Rival Yale University applications up by 10%

As per reports, Harvard College's applications have dropped by 5% as compared to the previous year. This year, a total of 54,008 students applied for the next fall's freshman class marking the second consecutive year of decline in Harvard's undergraduate applications.

The decline in the applications is being seen as a symbolic blow to the school after a tumultuous year that saw the resignation of the president and defeat at the Supreme Court. The college reportedly saw soar in applications during the COVID-19 pandemic after it scrapped the standardised testing requirements.

Rival Yale University applications up by 10%

While Harvard College reported a decline in application forms, the rival university Yale reported 10% more applicants as compared to last year. The total number of applicants at Yale University stood at 57,465.

The data revealed by Harvard in December showed applications for non-binding early admissions dropped by 17%. The reason behind this decline is not clear yet but it is adding concern for the college's reputation as it is facing accusations of antisemitism.

Harvard College Admissions Deadline is January 1 for Fall 2024

The deadline for Restrictive Early Action is November 1, and for Regular Decision, the last date is January 1, 2024.

The college accepts the Common Application and the Coalition Application by Scoir. Both these applications are treated equally by the Admissions Committee. If students use Common Application, they must submit their application before the supporting materials (Secondary School Report, Teacher Recommendations, etc.) can be released to a college. In this case, until you submit your own application sections, no part of your application will be transmitted to the Harvard Admissions Office.

In the case of the Coalition Application, the student must submit the separate Harvard supplement in addition to the application by the application deadline. Otherwise, the application will not be considered complete. Other application requirements include - School Reports and Teacher Recommendations, Standardized Test Scores, and Supplemental Materials. If you choose to submit standardized tests, you may submit the SAT or ACT (with or without the writing component). For the College Classes of 2027-2030, students may apply for admission without standardized test scores, said the official statement.

To apply as a first-year or transfer student at Harvard, the students need to fill out either a Common or Coalition application. They can choose any, the college has no preference. The application must be followed by the supplement for a better understanding of Harvard about the candidate.
